What's the difference in paying Higgins 30mil a year then paying Burns 30mil a year?

Adding talent you say. Talent cost money and not cheap money either.

The huddle acts like we are cap strapped. Right now we are about middle of the pack as far as cap space for next year now is the time to pay guys and add talent. We dont have any large contract superstars right now. Outside say whatever moton gettin who are we paying?

Pay Burns anf capitalize on adding guys while your qb is on a rookie deal.

We have luvu, burns and brown (next year) all looking at significant contract increases.  We will need to be adding 2/3 corners, 2/3 linebackers and more dline help and thats through free agency.  I think all of our cap space is about to get evaporated this up coming offseason.  And we are still eyeballing motons huge contract that has to be dealt with at some point.  Point is this team has a ton of holes and I dont think we have enough cap space or draft picks to make a significant dent in 1 off season

These guys know football. Never change guys. Most of the huddle are just Madden junkies who think they real life GM's. They think every star should be traded for picks. We just loss CMC and Moore and have nothing to show for it so far.

Burns is at worst a top 2 player on the team. Keep him.

This place is ridiculous. They don't even want to cheer our own players on. Only this fanbase can nitpick every little thing our best player does and make him out to be public enemy #1. I remember last year when there were rumors the Jets received calls about Quinnen Williams this whole forum was calling him a bust, only for him to end up getting a huge payday. I'm sure if Gary's deal never happened today and somebody mentions him as a trade target this whole board will say he's worse than Burns who apparently also sucks ass.

Our roster sucks though.  We have a ton of work to do…..and that requires a lot of cap.

we need new OL talent, WR talent, TE talent, RB talent.  And that’s just the O.

Unless Burns is willing to take Reddick/Chubb money…..you let him walk.  And I’m willing to bet he has already been offered more.  Burns isn’t good enough to take up absurd cap space on a team that needs as much as we do

Bro. Yall putting 30 mil as the cap hit thats gonna break us. the cap rises every year to where 30 mill will look like a deal next year. Look at DJ Moore contract at the time compared to what came after. The sooner you sign him the better the deal looks. Next dude to get a contract paces the market.

We have a terrible roster. Which is why we have the cap space to sign our 1 good player Burns. teams know how valuable a double digit pass rusher is worth which is why he wad worth 2 first and a second the other year. He hasnt diminished his value that much and he is still young. You dont get better hording cap space. you figure it out as you go along.

I just don't understand it.

Then you got grown men calling you out for being a Madden fanboy when they are the one suggesting we trade our best player for picks.

Im the Madden fanboy because I want to keep our best player?

This place is sad and funny at the same time. I just laugh most of the time, kind of hard to take some of these people seriously.

We don’t need to hoard cap space.  We need to essentially rebuild the roster and add a TON of talent.

so again, if Burns would keep pace with the Reddick, Chubb tier then you play him.  You don’t  overpay him Mack, Bosa money because Burns flat out isn’t good enough for that and we have too many players we need to add.

Burns isn’t our best player and has never been our best player in any year.   Burns isn’t worth 2 first. Every once in a while a team is just desperate and dumb….and we were too dumb to take advantage of the moment.  Reason 848932 that Fitt should be fired

This is a terrible take. Number 1... Burns like it or not is a young 2 time pro bowler. your not going to get him on a reddick deal when you drafted the guy and declined 2 first round picks and a 3rd for him. If hes not our best player who else could command that kind of value in a trade? Would anyone else be worth that kind of haul even cmc couldnt get you a first.

YES he's our best player consistently getting double digit sacks in a league where that isnt everyday common.  Nobody on this roster right now could get you a first round pick outside maybe derrick Brown so whats that say about a guy whom another team called and offered 2 first and a 3? you going to tell him hes not worth 30 million when you showed him hes worth more than 2 firsts?

I get you might think hes 1 dimensional but that 1 dimension is very valuable in a league where getting to the qb consistently is seen as the secon most valuable commodity.

Again, it highlights how bad our front office is which also needs addressing.  They should have taken the deal on Burns because it was a stupid good deal that would have been our favor.   Now you are wanting the Rams being insane and us being stupid in that moment…..to be some justification for us to continue being stupid.

Brian Burns has never had a season where he was the  best actual player on our team.

NFL is about roster management.  Right now we need to rebuild our roster and add a ton of talent and be Bryce Young centric.  Burns is worth paying if he resets the top of the Reddick/Chubb player tier.  Simple as that.  And Reddick and Chubb are better players.  He isn’t good enough to take up the cap or the Bosa/Mack tier because he flat out isn’t that type player.  That’s just dumb roster management given where we are as a franchise.  We have a bad front office.  They botched this thing on Burns.   I don’t endorse future stupid because they got egg on their face.

Bingo. The Rams were trying to win another Super Bowl. They thought Burns was the piece to get them a significant advantage paired with Donald and were willing to pay a ridiculous price to do it because they understand that 2 Lombardis grant a lot of forgiveness.

This team needed to begin a full rebuild this off-season but instead decided half ass it, try and make a run in a terrible division just so they could say they made the playoffs before getting blown out against better teams.

This team's behavior is mirroring the owner. Impatient and rash. Now we have a new rookie QB, very little offensive talent, an offensive scheme that plays to our olines weakness, and a defense that's got more holes than a slice of Swiss cheese.

Paying Burns on a 4 or 5 year big deal doesn't help the team because it's going to take at least half that trying to fill all the holes to at least be marginal. We traded away the assets needed to build around a rookie QB for reasonably quick success.

I'd like Burns to stay on a deal that's similar to the level of production he's given. 7-10m per season is a lot extra when you factor in all the players we're going to need just to be competitive.

This isn't on Burns. It's squarely on the FO fugging up this entire situation and this is what we're left with. Fitts needs to be shown the door once deadline has passed. He's done enough damage already. And for fugs sake, get a team president in here to get Tepper and his impulse control issues out of the front office.

    • Here’s a summary of the JJ and Luke podcast transcript. Opening / Bryce Young Fifth-Year Option     •    JJ: Breaking news — Panthers picked up Bryce Young’s fifth-year option at $25.9M, guaranteed, coming in 2027. Combined with his 2025 salary of ~$6M, that’s $31M over two years — called it a “no-brainer.”     •    Luke: Enthusiastic about the move. Highlighted Bryce’s improving TD/INT ratios (11/10 → 15/9 → 23/11) and the value of entering year three with Dave Canales. Noted $25M is a bargain relative to the $60M top of market. Luke’s Personal Update — Charlotte Christian Football     •    Luke: Working with Charlotte Christian school football program, which hired a new head coach. Coaches include Greg Olsen, Luke, and Greg’s dad Chris Olsen (a New Jersey State coaching Hall of Famer).     •    JJ: Jokingly quipped that Charlotte Christian’s coaching staff is “the world’s greatest” — a Fox analyst, a Hall of Famer, and the best Panthers RB ever — all coaching middle school football.     •    Luke: Praised Chris Olsen’s deep football knowledge spanning decades and his ability to connect with kids. Round 1, Pick 19 — Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia     •    JJ: Panthers were on the clock and submitted their pick almost immediately — a sign of confidence and preparation. Freeling is 6’7”, 320 lbs, played in the SEC in a pro-style system.     •    Luke: Loved the pick. Emphasized you can never have too many quality offensive linemen. Noted Freeling’s size, athleticism, and arm length as key traits. Said the pick also reflects team’s philosophy of drafting great people, not just great players.     •    JJ: Noted reporter Darren Gantt compared Freeling favorably to Jordan Gross — bigger, heavier, and faster — as a potential franchise left tackle.     •    Luke: Pointed out that young players like Freeling still have physical development ahead of them, comparing the trajectory to Christian McCaffrey’s growth from age 20 onward. Round 2, Pick 49 — Lee Hunter, DT, Texas Tech     •    JJ: Panthers traded up from 51 to 49 (pick swap with Minnesota) to grab Hunter. Played audio from Panthers area scout Kaden McLuhan, who scouted Hunter.     •    Scout Kaden McLuhan (audio): Said Hunter’s size is immediately striking, and that everyone around him spoke glowingly about his character, energy, and love for the game.     •    Luke: Praised Hunter as a massive (6’3”, 320 lbs, ~34” arms) two-gap nose tackle who fits perfectly in the Evero defense. Compared his prospect profile to Akiem Hicks. Said having Derek Brown, Bobby Brown, Derrick Brown, Terson Wharton, and now Hunter creates varied body types that stress offensive linemen.     •    JJ: Noted Hunter ranked third among all prospects in run-stuff rate and sixth in interior pass-rush win rate — addressing a perception that he couldn’t rush the passer. Rounds 3–7 Highlights     •    Luke: Highlighted WR Brazle (3rd round, 6’4”, 437 speed, 1,000+ yards at Tennessee) as the vertical threat the offense needed. Also praised OL Sam Heck (5th round) as a technically sound player whose “short arms” caused him to fall but who has proven himself.     •    Luke: Mentioned CB Will Lee (6’1”, 33” arms) fits the Panthers’ DB prototype — big, long corners.     •    Luke: Praised S/LB hybrid Zaki Wheatley (5th round, 6’3”) as a big nickel similar to Trayvon Merek.     •    Luke: Excited about the linebacker competition between Devin Lloyd, Trevvin Wallace, and Claudin Cherless.     •    JJ: Noted Panthers had the #1 “steal/overreach” rating in the entire draft — drafting players lower than consensus big boards projected. Around the League     •    Luke: Admitted being “a little jealous” that the Miami Dolphins drafted LB Jacob Rodriguez (Luke’s favorite LB in the draft). Has personal connections to Miami’s coaching staff (Jeff Hafley, DC Shawn Dugen — a childhood teammate).     •    Luke: Also noted Miami’s selection of OT/G Kaden Proctor out of Alabama, who will likely move to guard. League Trends — Bigger Tight Ends / 12 & 13 Personnel     •    JJ: Observed the NFL saw its highest run rate in ~11 years (~52%) and a notable pivot toward big blocking tight ends in this draft.     •    Luke: Explained the cyclical nature of NFL offense/defense evolution — as defenses get smaller to match spread offenses, teams counter with bigger personnel (12/13 formations), which then forces defenses to get bigger at the nickel/“big nickel” spot. Called it an ongoing arms race.
