REPORT: Frank Reich has talked to staff about his 'unknown job security'

It's fair to point out that Fitts didn't have final roster say until this year. It's also fair to say that this year's roster building process looks eerily similar to what it did before he had final say on paper and that his highest paid FA RB and TE both look like straight trash to the point that they've lost their starting roles to former mid-round disappointments. So I'm honestly not sure why people want to give him another year to make more bad moves and dig an even deeper hole.

Honestly, I'll give him a pass on Bryce because I have a sneaking suspicion that was a Tepper call.

I remember when everyone on this board was singing the praises of the Frank Reich signing.  Dogging Wilks as a candidate.  All I saw with the signing was a retread with a stale offense, who lacked the straight line approach to make us competitive.  We hired his daughter months before we hired him ensuring that there was proper nepotism involved.  He ditched our power run game, gutted the areas we were good at, and Fitt traded our best player and refused to resign our best back.  The Panthers are getting exactly what they deserve right now.

Too much analytics and too much good old boy’ism

should’ve kept Steve Wilkes as he has been only one to establish an identity, and understand its about PLAYERS not play calling.should've kept Foreman, McCaffrey and DJ.  This love affair about needing #1 pick was Bullshit bc now they claim - there’s no talent around Bryce.  DAF at the top of panthers

Frank has good football knowledge but hes not innovative because hes set in his ways...not really sure what hes suppose to do with the total lack of talent that has been stripped away. Hate seeing tipper yuk it up with fitterererer in the skybox. He has his nose so far up tippers azz its tickling  his small intestine.  How could tipper not judge this guy as being the absolute worse GM  in the league after seeing the carnage hes left behind. Hes still here because hes a yes man. It looks bad but get rid of both at the end of the season and hope you bring in the right guys again. Whoever comes here its still going to take a minimum of 3 years to turn it around if they do everything right. It means we will look like we do now for 2 more years in order to build talent. Its a vicious cycle. I don't expect dipper to get it right so embrace the suck...we are the new Detroit Browns......

You can't fire Frank after one season. You have to give him a chance to get his players in here that are better suited to run his scheme. We want immediate success but perhaps he's focussed on the bigger picture. His offensive scheme isn't necessarily bad, it's just bad for the players currently here in Carolina. At the very least, you give him next season to see how he adjusts his scheme to his current players, or brings in the right guys to do things the way he needs it done.

Sure you can. Didn’t like the hire originally and my opinion hasn’t changed.
Reich was a bad hire from the outset. If the bad keeps pilling up he is gone.

Why not?

I'm not going to pretend like I hated the hire.  But IMO the appeal of Frank Reich, for me anyway, is that he would get us back to respectability in the NFL.  I felt after the stink of Matt Rhule, we really needed that leader at the HC position who could right the ship and bring the roar back to this city.  Anyone who has been to a Panthers game in the last 3 years knows exactly what I'm taking about.  So even if the upside to win a Super Bowl with Reich wasn't there, I thought it was a strong hire because he was a proven commodity and he could at the very least make it feel good to go to games and be a Panthers fan.

But Reich was never going to be the guy who could turn around a tanking ship (and my fault for not seeing it - I thought we were closer than we were, but I will admit I was wrong).  And at this point, we have already tanked.  Like, we are at rock bottom.  Reich ain't the guy fixing that.  Keeping Reich merely for the sake of "not firing a coach after one season" is just wasting time.  We're a young team and we need a young, enthusiastic mind that can reach these players and build them from the ground up.  I do feel bad for Reich because the players on this team suck.  But he's just not the guy who can fix this.

Matt Rhule having a trump card in his back pocket (contractually) if and when he ever wanted to pull it…never meant he was using on everything

Rhule even addressed that narrative when going out the door.  And no one in Carolina ever pushed back on that.   It’s safe IMO to say Fitt owns a large portion of the Rhule era mess with Rhule.  And like you said, it’s the same issues to a large degree with Fitt both with and without Rhule.  And that’s because Fitt is a problem.

Oh, I agree. I doubt he was pulling rank on each and every roster call. Hell, he honestly probably rarely did.
