The committee was fuged when FSU and Bama won. No matter what they did there was gonna be a couple of teams howling and being very justified in their howling.

I 100% understand why people are howling for FSU. But I'm not gonna lie, as someone with no dog in the fight just wanting to see some of the best teams in the land duke it out for the title, I had no interest in seeing FSU there. When Walker went down so did their legit chances. Did they earn the right to be there? Yeah, they did. But is the team they're currently fielding jne of the top four teams in the country? Not a chance.

Bingo!

Right now FSU is not a top 4 team in the country. They had no shot to compete vs the elite with a backup QB. It's really that simple.

Is this gonna spur the death of the ACC? I wouldn't be shocked. After having the first undefeated P5 conference champ left out of the playoffs, I could see FSU and Clemson really wanting to GTFO. Clemson knew during all their playoff runs that they had zero margin for error. Other teams in other conferences might be able to get in with a loss but not an ACC team. Now their undefeated conference champ gets left out.  The football powers are gonna want to GTFO and I don't blame them. Adding Cal and Stanford? Yeah, that's gonna help. Maybe Cal and Stanford of a decade ago but not the current versions. All it does is further water down the conference and make for some nightmarish travel schedules. Cal and Stanford are fuged. They're gonna be at a significant disadvantage in every conference road game traveling east giving up three hours in the time change. The NFL sees a significant statistical disadvantage for west coast teams traveling east.

So why play the season? Like Booger McFarland said, just have a parade of teams and pick the best 4 if playing the games doesn't count and it's all an eye test.

I have a strong dislike for FSU, but look, they beat everyone on their schedule and the conference championship.

Georgia lost 1 game on the last few seasons and likely better than 2 of the 4 teams in. Again, doesn't look like playing the games matters.

They play in the SEC which is much tougher than the ACC.

I don't understand why people think the SEC doesn't matter in college football it's the best conference in college football and has been so for over a decade.

FSU 2-0 against the SEC. Apparently not worth as much because they’re in the ACC. Nobody is saying it doesn’t matter. It clearly matters, and it clearly matters more than it should. What is also clear is that the rules are not evenly applied and there is clear favoritism towards certain programs. Just don’t say it’s about the “eye test” when given examples that it clearly isn’t. Transparency would have looked like just designating an automatic playoff spot for an SEC team no matter what happens, then we all go into every season understanding that. They are fortunate this is the last year of the 4 team playoff, and maybe that’s the reason they went ahead and just did whatever they wanted with it.

FSU got screwed over by a bad system, and the solution to that problem is to increase the bracket so that games can actually be played to answer the question that right now has to be determined on paper

the committee needed to apply the logic they’ve been using consistently over the CFP era, and they did that.

if the answer to the problem was “let’s change things because THIS time it feels wrong to omit this team” then Texas and Alabama are getting screwed hard, as would be all of CF without a unifying standard

the question is who are the best four teams, the answer should be let’s let them play and figure that out, the second best solution is what they did; a flawed but consistently applied metric. The worst option would be an ever changing standard that conveyed no trust.

Exactly by using Florida States injuries as a reason the are disregarding what the team accomplished in favor of "potential matchups" FSU got fugged imagine if the NFL decided to do crap like this you go undefeated and win a power 5 you earned your spot no excuse... they also let a 1 loss team leapfrog

FSU would have been in if they didn't lose their starting QB.

How is that hard to understand?

Do you think the Chiefs are a top 4 team in the NFL without Mahomes?

This is where they truly screwed up. Once they made the decision to expand the playoffs why kick the can down the road? If there's a 12 team playoff this year problem solved. All the teams legit deserving would be there and there would be some bubble teams on the edge of the 12 howling but let's be real, the teams on the bubble of 12 don't have a legit shot anyway.

Not sure what you mean by that?

you’re suggesting a system where qualifying is centered around a points system based strictly on mathematical accomplishments.

an undefeated season in the SEC is harder than an undefeated season in the ACC, and especially a lot harder than the MAC.

those non-con games would then all shift to gimmies as teams wanted to ease the road to undefeated

the only reason we’re even having this discussion is because Alabama and Texas played each other; the only reason Alabama and Texas scheduled each other is because it was a boon to each team’s SOS.

The SEC as a whole is largely a myth. It's very too heavy. Yeah, the top SEC teams are damn good but the rest? They're honestly no better than the other conferences. They get an artificial boost because of their conference affiliation.

Just look at the SEC-ACC head to head record this year. Everyone claims the SEC is so much better but the record doesn't bear it out.

So you prefer they put a team in the playoffs with their backup QB and watch them get stomped by Bama?

Then people will complain they should have never made it to begin with.

If FSU QB didn't get injured this is a non story and they are clearly in the playoffs.

    • I want the conversations at season's end to be more about what else we need to build onto the foundation to be playoff contenders and less about the fultility of drafting yet another QB and hiring yet another coach because as long as Tepper is the owner, it doesn't matter what this team does.
