Is our defense overated?

Personally, I'm bit all that impressed with our defense. I don't like the way it corners play. They play scared, Reactive. They are seldom ever are between the ball and the receiver but making the tackle after the catch. The idea is to prevent the catch. I do like the way D Brown and Luvu are playing, there's whither DT but I know his name, he played well.

I think Evero has done a lot with a little.  The defense has kept us in most games, and did so without much of a pass rush, and with a lot of injuries.  And with very little help from the offense.

One of the greatest coaching jobs in franchise history.  Defense has had almost as many devastating injuries as the offense and Evero has kept them balling.

They would be getting a lot more respect if the offense did their part (the points given up too are out-of-whack relative to how good they've been overall b/c the offense has constantly put them in bad situations).

Our defense is admirable for its short comings. They are not game changing enough to be considered anything more than middle of the pack. Is that because of injuries, scheme, or personnel? We may never know for sure because I do not feel anyone from this defensive staff will be retained to fully realize Eve's potential.

The reason were are #3 in yards and 29th in points is because of turnovers and losing the field position battle due to our offense's ineptitude...it's as simple as that.

Basically, if the opposing teams have a short field and score, then it doesn't require racking up a lot of yardage in order to get that score.

I would take those stats flip-flopped any day of the week, BTW.

we have some of the fewest turnovers in the league but let's don't use facts.

Defensive rankings always have a weird skew.

I have noticed in years past, the "#1 ranked pass defense" is always repeated over and over again, but is usually misleading because the "#1 ranked pass defense" is usually #1 because they are ranked dead last in rush defense. Of course a defensive will given up the least amount of passing yards and least passing TDs when an offense can just run all over them rushing.

Also, its hard to determine exactly how good a defense is if the offense is constantly putting them in bad yard situations and the offense turning the ball over really gases the defense having to run back out on the field.

    • Yeah I think he's just talking continuity it's not really an endorsement. Also I would think CarolinaHuddle of all places would understand using "we" for the team you follow. I can't STAND when dorks do the "Oh so you play for them then? Hurr hurr"
    • Kon is a damn stud but it’s not any individual player’s team. All of the “big 3” are incredibly and equally important IMO. And LaMelo makes Kon way better (look at his shooting splits with LaMelo on the floor vs without. Also Moose and even Miles are important cogs. Honestly think we’re 1 piece away from being legit top contenders if the young guys continue to develop the next year or two. I trust this FO to be patient to find that piece within the next 2-3 years and not force anything. Plenty of time and even without adding anyone we have the pieces in place overall already to compete with any team.
    • We lost 2 very close and winnable games against top teams in the league while missing 3 critical players despite 2 of our top 3 players shooting unusually terribly. Still split the 4 games that Moose and Miles were suspended, winning the most important one vs the Hawks. This ain’t yo mama’s Hornets man. Hopefully Coby can go soon but even if not Moose and Miles are huge additions for our starting lineup and bench rotations. Schedule is pretty tough after these next 4 but I think we’ll take care of business the next 4 to get to .500 then finish slightly above .500 after that to get a 7 or 8 seed. Keep it rolling boys. Also Kon is having an insanely historic rookie season as a shooter. Like truly can’t believe my eyes watching this kid level of historic. Man what a fuging home run of a draft pick and exactly what this team needed to take that next step forward. He’s gonna shatter the rookie 3 point and franchise 3 point records. Has a real chance to be the 2nd best 3 point shooter ever or dare I say even get to Curry’s level (as a pure shooter, Curry obviously has way more to his game that has made him a GOAT).
