It's specifically about the Commanders likely GM search and is written by a DC beat writer, but the information included applies to us as well.

Excerpts regarding a few people of interest, starting with...

Adam Peters (Assistant GM, 49ers)

The promotion of John Lynch to president of football operations means Peters could land a GM job by staying with the 49ers. A contingent of league sources wonder if that’s the Northern California native’s preferred option. Peters interviewed for the New York Giants’ GM vacancy in 2022 but declined meetings with the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans for their 2023 openings.

Mention of him declining interviews just last year as well as potentially being in line for the 49ers GM spot makes this one sound highly unlikely.  He has said before that being GM of the 49ers is his dream job.

 

Ian Cunningham (Assistant GM, Chicago Bears)

Cunningham was tutored in front offices led by former Baltimore Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome and Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman. Those organizations are known for blending tape-watching and data in their player evaluation process. After nine seasons of scouting for the Ravens, Cunningham landed with the Eagles, where he served as director of college scouting (2017-18), assistant director of player personnel (2019-20) and director of player personnel (2021).

Joe Hortiz (Director of Player Personnel, Baltimore Ravens)

That means Hortiz contributed to Baltimore spending first-round picks on Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco in 2008 and wide receiver Zay Flowers in 2023. Talent acquisition is paramount to future success, but that goes beyond 40-yard times and tape evaluation. Hortiz, more of a behind-the-scenes executive, has insight into Baltimore’s culture and how it fits all the right pieces together. Before the Giants hired Joe Schoen, he was a leading candidate for their GM opening in 2022.

This, in my mind, should be one of the leading candidates for the job. Could potentially be paired with Ravens DC Mike McDonald If Tepper were willing to go with a defensive coach (unlikely)

 

Ray Agnew (Assistant GM, Detroit Lions)

Mentioning Ben Johnson will cause readers to pause on Agnew’s bio, considering there’s no hotter head-coaching candidate unless Taylor Swift shows up with a stopwatch at the Senior Bowl. Agnew, 56, isn’t a sexy name, but his resume is notable. Before landing in the Motor City, he served as director of pro personnel with the Rams (2017-20) as Los Angeles built a roster with a significant influx of outside talent. Detroit has approached roster building through the draft and has crushed with the selections of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, Sam LaPorta and Brian Branch.

Our buddy Casillas had an interesting theory on that...

He thinks it's possible Fitterer gets "promoted" to a job where he continues all of his current administrative duties except making personnel decisions.

Fitterer Is said to be very well liked within the organization and is good at handling a lot of the day-to-day stuff.

This is what a lot of us used to hope would happen to Marty Hurney.

I can see it, Scott is a really really good dude just not a good GM. He’s like the opposite of Gettleman when it comes to talking to people and players

Scott Fitterer has been horrific here. He doesn't need to be in the building lending his thoughts on any subject.   When you have been as bad as the Fitterer era Panthers have been.....you don't keep that around and change the job title.  He has been a big part of the problem.

…so, the person given a large say in trading up for Young, all the shitty free agent moves is now ,not good with personnel decisions.…,but hey, people like him

Scott the GM has been a problem 100%, but there are so many things done behind the scenes that need NFL experience that aren’t player personnel driven. We all claim that “no one wants to work here” so it might be theorizing Dave having to work with what he has for a bit till things turn over.

Peters seems impossible so Agnew looks the best of that lot. 

And promoting Fritters just moves the cancer higher so that would be a hard fail. He needs to be out of the building or it's another busted year while putting all new hires on the 'please burn' pile. What a terrible idea that is so it's plausible in that house.

why keep a problem? him being "nice" just doesn't sell the argument. 

maybe the new GM shouldn't have to deal w/ a leftover horrible GM that also is a David Tepper lapdog?  I'm sure a qualified GM can take care of whatever folks want carved out for Fitterer to pointlessly have and keep.

It doesn’t have to be a personnel spot with personnel say. Not advocating but I could see it happening with how things currently are.
