They literally had 2-3 players in front of their blue paint the entire game. That causes big issues for the canes.

That’s what some teams have learned to do against the canes, and it’s been effective because they know the canes like to shoot the puck from the perimeter and score on rebounds.  Not sure what the solution is.

Like we did to the aging pens. Then we play stretch the goalie game. But we never got ahead of our game besides the Martinook goal. We just kept reverting to bad habits. On both offense and defense.

When we get down, we divert from our game. Teams can just lock in and deflect shots in their d zone b/c they know we don’t generate anything besides rebounds and redirects.

When this happens, we have to convert on the PP. Unfortunately, it’s looked like trash for the last few games again and whatever voodoo was propelling it is now gone.

Our dynamic players didn’t get their pregame nap.

Seeing it live. The canes have stopped cycling and moving in the PP. It’s just pass pass pass in the same area.

Raanta was below average.  Here is the thing.  Our team this year goes by two things. Special teams and goalie play. Goalie play tonight was bad. Could not convert a PP goal. That’s game.

Last time Canes played LA , Canes won 6-5 in a shootout. Freddie Anderson was in net.

They’re a good team on a losing streak motivated to win today and play tough against the canes. Canes aren’t going to beat them scoring only 2 goals and having defensive lapses, and a goal or 2 that should have been stopped.

I think you have to give Drury a chance at 2C before the TDL. If he stays producing then great but if not then we need to go get one.

I’d look at:

Svechnikov - Aho - Teravainen

Bunting - Drury - Necas

Martinook - Staal - Fast

Noesen - Kotkaniemi - Jarvis

Maybe Noesen and Jarvis can jumpstart KK.

There isn’t enough grit on the 4 line there. Yes Noesen is grit but KK is snake bit. I think putting Fasty on 4 was probably the smartest move of all season but I think shifting him to 2 may fix things.

We’re not that type of team in my opinion.

Rod’s MO has been three scoring and one checking. Problem is we’ve been two scoring and one checking.

KK and Necas, once he gets back, need to get going.

Personal opinion but I think KK is actually too gritty for a 2C and he’s ideally a 3C.

I feel like Drury is in that same mold but probably has more skill than KK which is why I’d give him a shot as 2C.

In order for KK to be successful offensively he needs feeders. His shot is elite but everything else is kind of average.

I think he belongs with two wingers that can create opportunities for him.

Who those two wingers could be is up for debate.

Let's start with basics. Canes were beaten to loose pucks, lost board battles and allowed cross ice passes in both the 1st and 3rd period.

They were sloppy passers, no puck support behind the goal and guys running into each other like they've ever been on the ice together.

The Canes didn't belong on the ice with an NHL team today.

This was not on Raanta. The Canes would have lost regardless who was in net the way they played today.

    • I think Indiana will win it all but Miami should give them a much better fight than Oregon did.
    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
