Why carolina can not* afford to lose Burns

Recommended Posts

i'll say this...i don't think we need all-stars on this team right now, as in that doesn't need to be a priority.

right now what we need are highly motivated jags who can get the job done.

trade burns and get some value for the cap space and picks.

Rebuilding...  again...  Maybe for real this time.  You liquidate those assets to get draft capital or players to build the foundation.  Burns should definitely be tagged and traded.  I don't think there should be a single player on this roster not available for trade at this point.  I want to vomit every time I hink of those two 1sts that were offered for burns, and it wasn't taken.

My big issue with Burns is this. He knew this was his contract year. This was the year for him to go out there and show that he's an elite edge rusher worthy of elite edge rusher money. He didn't. Pure and simple. If anything, he actually took a step back. That's even with us retooling our entire defensive scheme in large part to free him up to do what he does best.

What Brian Burns proved this season was that he's NOT worth an elite edge rusher contract. The only question remaining for me honestly is if tag and trade is even still on the table. If we tag him is there going to be a real trade market? Because no one is trading for him unless they can get a long-term contract agreed upon.

We honestly might end up just letting this guy walk for nothing. But then again, that's basically what we've been doing anyway. We turned the CMC trade assets into nothing. We turned this Bryce trade assets into arguably worse than nothing.

Every team needs allstars. Who is more highly motivated than Burns? guy who plays without a contract and didnt hold out like Bosa when everyone was calling for him to do so. SF needed bosa, Detroit needed Hutchinson, Chiefs,Jones, Edubika for the Ravens. you dont get there with Jags.

Do I see the logic in trading him for offensive assets to help bryce? absolutely. But then you still have to replace him.. we have no one close to his level out of all the picks we sunk into that area from Gross,DJ Johnson, Amari so on. We even tried jags like Justin Houston. Fact is Pass rush is hard to come by cause the good ones dont make it to free agency. best you coulr hope for would be like a Clowney or if SF lets Chase Young walk.

This if anything hurts his ability to demand top teir edge money. If he settles for 20 or 25 mil i call that a win. That said he himself said he was scared to play on the tag and didnt want to risk injury. Why blow out your knee for a 2 win season?

There is no need to write all of this.

It's simple with Burns. Pay him if he takes a realistic salary that matches his play. Trade him if he wants more than what we are willing to offer.

Would love him back on a reasonable contract. If not let's move on because this Burns talk has been happening for 2 straight years now.

Because you're trying to prove you're worth $30M a year.

Tag and trade baby. Sign a vet pass rusher or 2 with the money we were gonna spend on him and draft some weapons with the capital we get for him

This IMO is the best move.  Get some picks for him as we are in desperate need of draft capital.

Brown & Luvu > Burns

I agree,  I would rather put the money on these guys who have proven game in and game out they are studs.

Should have traded his ass for that massive bounty and avoided all this absurd and nonsensical drama.

Its not necessarily Burn's fault, but not taking that trade has put Burns and the Panthers in a bad position. The trade would have worked out well for everyone.

I am still baffled about this move.   You trade away arguably the best offensive weapon in the NFL for literally nothing. No offense to DJ Johnson. We then keep a player we could have used those two first round draft picks to get Young without giving up our 2024 draft pick and DJ Moore.  This could have been used to trade down and fill so many gaps including a top tier DE.

Just actually explaining my point of view rather than just screaming "PICK A SIDE!!!" lol

in the end you need them.

How many all stars did the Houston Texans have on their roster this year?

we need young talent.  Lots of it.   We need to do an actual rebuild.  Something we haven't done.  At all.  Since Tepper bought the team.

burns isn't an allstar. he's not worth $30m (which is what he wants). he's not worth $25m. he's barely worth $20m and even that's a push.

the biggest issue is to get solid players across the board and use as many draft picks and as much cap space as possible to accomplish this. build a solid team, a solid foundation, first. then develop up.

I'd say 23mil is fair for both sides if you compare him to this list. Give some contract incentives for 28-30mil and let him decide if hes worth 30.  But yea... .the panther way is to just let him walk..

    • would love it if Vegas were Week 5 (Oct 7).  Just throwing it out there with fingers crossed
    • I believe you are correct. Everyone remembers that record setting drubbing of the Broncos but that was the highlight of their season. They have very good coaching overall and they have a ton of talent. With a better QB they could have knocked off the Chiefs IMO. We aren't even in the conversation of the Dolphins until proven otherwise. We couldn't even get in the end zone against the lowly Chicago Bears. We got shutout and blown out by the CJ Beathard led Jaguars for fugs sake. We can't even compete with bad teams let alone run up the score on them. To me if I'm being completely realistic if I'm the GM and my job is on the line and I feel like Tua is Bryce Young's ceiling I'm drafting QB in the first round next year unless he just magically has a season like Stroud did last year. That's it. I'm genuinely not trying to be abrasive about this it just gets really mind numbing eventually that we keep lowering the bar down down down down down and it's like hey it's fine to have expectations. And if you have a young QB in his prime and he isn't giving you at least prime Jake Delhomme arm talent it's time to keep looking for a QB.
    • Not exactly.  They show that Jones was making the most of the opportunities he had.  I was never a fan of his, but I think that the talent level in NE last year is somehow escaping the massive negative attention it should have received.  That team was terrible - especially the talent and coaching on offense - and everyone was still afraid of the wrath of hoodie. He'll have a chance to restart his career at some point.  He was a middle of the pack QB as a rookie.  Plenty of teams out there would love to make it up to middle of the pack at QB.
