Matt Moore responds to Panthers' offer

Panthers restricted free agent quarterback Matt Moore could barely contain his enthusiasm tonight while discussing the team's decision earlier today to use the highest possible tender to keep him from going elsewhere in free agency.

Other teams would owe Carolina a first- and a third-round pick if Moore accepted an offer the Panthers chose not to match, a compensation level so steep that it's virtually certain no team will try to obtain him.

Moore, an undrafted free agent first signed by Dallas in 2007, also received a one-year tender offer of $3.043 million -- a dramatic increase over the $460,000 base salary he earned last season.

"My wife and I both are just very, very excited and kind of thrilled," Moore told the Observer. "This is a good thing. It’s something we’re going to enjoy and kind of get back to Charlotte and get working."

There have been times when it was hard to tell what the Panthers thought of Moore's long-term status with the team, especially before Jake Delhomme's broken finger forced a change at the position late last season. Moore took over and led the Panthers to a 4-1 record, throwing eight touchdown passes and only one interception as a starter.

"I’ve never thought that they didn’t think highly of me," said Moore. "That didn’t cross my mind, but something like this speaks loud and clear about how they feel. It’s good to know. Carolina is the place to be. It’s good to know they feel that way and I’m just looking to enjoy it and move forward."

Moore has been spending the offseason with family and friends in California. He said he'd return to Charlotte early next week, about a week before the start of the team's offseason conditioning program.

Good for the kid. I know he says he never felt the organization didn't think highly of him, but it's nice for him to get this kind of recognition. I just hope all this talk about not knowing who the quarterback next year is just that -- talk.

It is, the organization is not going to tell people the truth. They will do everything but flat out lie about what they think of player's. They aren't going to say:

"Jake really confirmed that he's garbage this season, we gave him a big contract because we thought it was just one game and we wanted to show confidence in our guy. WOW we sure fuged up there. It's nice that Matt Moore played so well at the end of the season to save our jobs. Thanks-A-Million Matt! Now who wants to know what we think about Julius Peppers?"

    • I've already addressed this notion in a previous reply. You are basing your assertion outside reality if you think Bryce would have not only been more successful but defeated the Patriots in place of Herbert. Bryce got blown off the field by that Patriots team with the highest paid OL in the league. We've seen Bryce with an OL that gave up 65 sacks and it resulted in the #1 pick. And that is not a defense of Herbert or arguing he is a great QB in any way. He has physical talent but he has been similar to Darnold early in his career in terms of his very up and down perfomances. However that does not change the fact that they have significantly less invested in the OL than the Panthers.
    • I think Tepper has been setting the stage where pending there is no miracle he wipes it all clean.  Think you already have been told that with small things like Evero staying.  Bryce is the guy next year.  OC, DC, everything stays the same.  QB room largely the same.  Nothing would really matter there.  They basically get one more shot and it goes how the schedule paired with our 27th ranked O predictably most likely goes.  Everyone out the door together.  Bryce is a bridge tier QB.  I don’t see Dave surviving where he could be bridge QB here in reality.
    • I think the D performed well over the season considering it was put together with Scotch tape.
