Offensive Playmaker vs BPA

I hope to trade down 3-7 picks and take BPA. We needs so much help. WR of course, IOL was so bad last year, but are we sure Corbett can stay healthy? Looking at linebacker has to be a concern. We so many holes with Burns/Luvu future, and Shaq getting old and coming off injury, aswell as  YGM and Haynes being FA's. Then cornerback spot Horn can't healthy and although i've liked Jackson unless something is done with his contract i'd be shocked if this is not his last season here.( I really hope we can work out a 1-2yr deal with Troy Hill. Shy Tuttle didnt look like a stud last year and after this year you could walk away from his contract as well. Just totally gutted from 3 bad drafts in a row. Mid round RB or flyer couldn't hurt incase move on from Chuba and or Sanders after this season. The more I think of it the more I dont know how it can't be BPA. We are definitely looking at a 2-3yr rebuild.

That's not going to happen no matter how much some of the fans want. They'll most likely take a WR. Hopefully, they'll go Oline if they have any of them rated higher than the available receivers.

In short; obviously, correct and doubtful.  On the last point, IOL will not trump the need for a WR and we are not taking a tackle.

I know the odds are the Panthers draft a WR even if it's a reach with their first pick. It's also a shortsighted dumb move that would show nothing has changed.

Here's a look at the Panthers' 2024 picks:

— Their own second-rounder (No. 33 overall)

— Their own third-rounder (No. 65 overall)

— Their own fourth-rounder

— San Francisco's fifth-rounder

— Tennessee's fifth-rounder

— Arizona's sixth-rounder

The decision to trade down has to be based on what is left on the draft board at the end of the 1st round. We know first round caliber players fall into the first round all of the time.

Several starting caliber o-lineman, TE's, or WR's could be available in Day 2 of the draft. If we could trade down a couple of slots, obtain an extra pick in the 3rd or 4th round w/out parting with our 3rd and 4th round choices, and stay in the top 40 of the 2nd round, I would strongly consider a deal. If not I'd take the best available offensive player at 33 and focus on offense for most of the draft

Our offense was the worst in the NFL. We were shut out the last two games of the season. Bryce Young had one  of the worst rookie seasons for a QB in recent memory. No way I'm drafting a LB, DB, or even d-lineman with our offense so inept. Our defense wasn't awful last season, Our offense was.

I wouldn't go into the draft expecting much from FA. Unless a player literally can't get another job in the league or desires to be in the Carolinas for personal reasons, I can't think of too many reasons for him to come to Charlotte outside of an obscene paycheck (which other owners can likely match if needed). This team has questionable ownership, the least talented roster in the NFL, no proven talent at QB, no first round draft choice in 2024,  and 6 straight losing seasons.

Get players that can improve Bryce's chance of success in 2024. Hopefully, the coaching staff can work with the underachievers currently on the roster and improve their play. We may be able to get some help from the undrafted FAs and the waiver wire. As some have pointed out, we're looking at a 2-3 year rebuild before we can compete for a playoff spot. We might as well lay a strong foundation one piece at a time.

Agreed. The issue is the team needs a good legit rebuild. No more F-ing hotshotting! Should have done it 3-4 years ago. Hopefully ownership accepts the 2-3 year build and we can enjoy the ride. I'm sus, but the coaching hire appears to be a good move. We'll see.

I think it depends how the difference in grades when you pick.  If a guy you have graded as a mid to first rounder drops to the 2nd, you take him as long as it's not at a position where we are stacked.  Luckily, we are not stacked at any position.

I think Canales's offense is going to put Bryce in a much, much better position from the start so even if we had the same personal, this is going to help a lot.

I've always said it's all connected but the biggest problem was our interior offense line.  With that, the health and longer term health of Brady and Austin being big question the Panthers have to answer.  How sure are you these guys are going to be as healthy as a vet you might go out and sign.  When healthy and with Canales's new offense isn't the complete disaster it was last year.

I'm not saying we still don't need WR, TE, or upgrades at other positions.  Only that it isn't all going to happen in year 1 which is why I think you always go with BPA but with a strong eye towards interior oline.

I also think we'll end up trading Burns for a 1st pick and something else.

My 2 cents on the matter -

We have to find a way to invest in capable weapons that can make game-breaking plays.  We just don't have it.  This team doesn't have the ability to score at will.

So, I think you need to prioritize it.  BUT - For pick 33, you can't force it.  If you have a RB/WR/TE graded the same as, let's say a DB, DL or OL, you go with that offensive skill guy.  Take a weighted approach when it comes to drafting.  If there's a guy in your mid-1st block available at EDGE or OL for example, no doubt take him over WR6-7.  But if they're teetering around the same grade, you lean offensive skill position.

And in FA, you basically see if you can be the winning bid for Michael Pittman or Hollywood Brown.  Mike Evans doesn't fit our window at the spot he's at career wise and I don't see Higgins happening.  That's the notable market aside trade targets.  No to Gabe Davis and the rest of the FA class and we don't need to overpay another RB.

TBH, I haven't trusted our FO to execute a successful trade down in a long time. I get the idea being solid but I just haven't seen us "win" one of those in a long time.

Would just prefer BPA and not to get cute. Let's see what the "new" FO's eye for talent is.

Thanks for the handy breakdown @SCO96!

I'd see who wants what after round 1.  I can almost guarantee that we'll have a fair number of suitors for at the top of 2 and 3.  Listening to Bucky Brooks the other day, he said this draft was really deep in OT and WR, but after the first 100 or so players, it all gets really thin.  I'm all for more darts at the dart board of chance!

Given our historical propensity to draft shtty WR's, I hope they don't reach for one at 33 and think hes going to be our playmaker...BPA all the way... too many holes to fill...start building the right way... its painful and not glamorous...Dipper has to understand we're  realistically 2-3 years out for a solid team and these BS band aids we have been applying  are only digging deep holes. 2024 we will find out who Bryce is and it will be another 5-12 season at best... Givin our current situation its hard to be a panther fan in the next 2 years...reality.

Sadly, I still believe we are several years away from another winning season.

Sadly, people rarely get smarter with age.
