Panthers sign LB Josey Jewell

Josey Jewell is a terrific run defender who covers well.

5.  Lavonte David, ILB, Buccaneers. Age: 34.    

Lavonte David somehow continued to play on a very high leve last year despite being in his mid-30s. He has to decline at some point, but there haven’t been any signs of it.

6.  Frankie Luvu, ILB, Panthers. Age: 27.   
Signed with Redskins (3 years, $36 million)
 

Frankie Luvu has emerged as a well-rounded linebacker the past two years in Carolina.

Looks like Luvu was a better pass-rusher and younger, but Josey can still tackle well.

Tackling is what Josey is being signed for.  Let Brown & Robinson eat up the blockers and let Josey go to work.

Certainly not as versatile as Luvu, but hopefully a great fit for what Evero is wanting him to do in this scheme.

He’s a solid linebacker which should fill in well while we rebuild and continue transferring to a 3-4

I'm feeling like we have upgraded the run defense with signing Robinson & Jewell, but pass rush is still a massive chasm right now.

Hopefully we sign at least one OLB tomorrow

This team wasn't working with the players we had. I appreciate a change in approach. Lotta new players on D and a focus on OL. Weapons to come. Excited.
