Who is your day 3 Qb?

Maybe ask some 49ers fans who didn’t think they needed to draft a backup/day 3 qb how they feel about it now

You’re asking for the Panthers (and their crack scouting dept) to spend a 3rd round pick in the hopes they stumble on an Uber talented QB the rest of the league overlooks.

Not just that, but then we have to hope Bryce goes down so this 3rd round pick can get game reps and develop into something.

All this when we have poo for depth at all positions.

The developmental QB is an outdated thing from the 80s and 90s.

In todays game you can either play or you can’t.  Teams aren’t drafting QBs and letting them develop for years like baseball pitchers.

A 3rd day QB pick is just a lottery ticket.  The odds that were in week 15 and Bryce is either hurt or a flop is significant.  I could easily see the staff wanting to see what they have in a day 3 QB in that situation.

Exactly. It’s really hard to improve when you’re not able to play in a real game.

It’s even harder given how often nfl staffs turn over and how that impacts player development.

Austin Reed. been banging that drum since the senior bowl practices. hes a guy that has an NFL arm and not the publicity that the others have. he may make it to 240 or UDFA. he isnt going to be chucking it 70 yards, nor laser flat 20 yard out routes. thats ok. he can be effective. little bit of a gambler though so he can give a lot and take away sometimes being aggressive. for a 3rd qb to dev and run the backups sure for pick 240 or UDFA.

Rattler is this year's wildcard. he could be a top guy in a few years or a guy that never makes it to the end of his rookie contract. That arm is elite. at 141/142 idk if i would pass on the lotto ticket with that level and what we have here currently. no way he makes it to 240. very polarizing player for damn sure. personally i would not be shocked to see him in the top 70 picks though as someone thinks they can unlock him. also could see him past 140 cause the red flags of 2022 and 2023 scare everyone off that he will never unlock the arm talent as he doesn't process fast enough or have the consistency to be anything more than a 3rd qb.

Why not. It's the same people scouting whether its qb or another position. i

Whatever position the pick is they will be developing from the bench

He would have never touched the field if Trey and Jimmy didn’t get hurt.

Well, injuries are a part of it, and always have been, so you shouldn't talk in absolutes. Like, Brady came in when Bledsoe was injured also, and so many others.

I certainly wouldn’t use a 3rd but I would consider a 5th or later on one.

I said day 3 not round 3. 5-7th or even Udfa after the draft

Im just not a fan of spending your last $5 on a lottery ticket when the pantry is bare.

We can gamble once we have a competitive roster that could actually support a developing QB.

The topic wasn't initially about a 3rd rounder, it was day 3 5-7th/udfa. We need someone for camp/practice squad/scout at the very least and I don't think many people want it to be Kyle Allen or Nate Sudfield and the like. Weird thing for a handful of people to scoff at when we literally have to have a qb3 for the summer and the FA list sucks

I'd take Devin Leary, NC State/Kentucky QB at 240. He'd be a solid backup, 1/2 game starter in a pinch type player. He's Sam Howell but cheaper.

He's definitely got an arm, seems like a good 7th/udfa guy if we truly do have a qb whisperer as head coach. Can run a little too

In the other direction I'm a bit of an anarchist so I say Joe Milton and let him do some crazy throws/runs in preseason and totally disrupt Tepper Sports and entertainment or whatever they call it

Milton will get overdrafted. Make a couple preseason highlights then overthrow a pass over the middle for a pick.
