Will the Carolina Panthers select a center in the 2024 NFL Draft?

Recommended Posts

If JPJ falls, its probably the easiest pick to make in the whole draft, even tho i think its some good centers available later....its a easy pick for a team that needs as many good decisions as possible.

I think they need to, but Canales has already said Corbett (I think he said it) and Mays.  If you step back and look at the big picture, is the upgrade from Corbett to a rookie center worth it, if it is at all?  I literally do not know what Corbett would be like at C--does Canales?

Here is what I have noticed:

Canales mentioned keeping his third/emergency QB on the PS--

He praised Sullivan, Tremble, and Thomas at TE--when you do that across the board, it may be that we are adding a TE.  You do not want to let existing players know that you are before the draft, because if it does not work out, you have let them know you wanted to upgrade them.  I think we add a TE.

Looking at the roster and knowing the strengths of the draft, you KNOW we are drafting a WR, CB, and LB.

LOGIC:  Do u spend $150m at G and let someone who has never played C take that job?   Only if you know that Corbett and Mays are capable of doing the job and protecting the QB.

From our perspective?  You draft a C early.

I just do not get the idea that we will.

I agree but only if JPJ comes off the board in R1.  And I think we can get Frazier @ 39 if we go BPA WR or CB @ 33. Either way we can’t lose.

I would love this scenario. WR at 33 and Frazier at 39. I totally agree..really is a win win. I just want to see the line properly built and another weapon for BY

I think when you look at the cap numbers those guardes are gonna inflict in three years or so, you don’t want to be spending at C.

All for a C if it works out. The right guy could be depth for a season.

Yes! Corbett has only ever played center in the NFL during camps. Other teams have shown he's just not a center. If the goal is to give Young the best chance to succeed, leaving center to a guy that has proven he can't play the position is going to hurt Young's chances more than help them.

Yeah. Leaving a massive hole at center is the sort of thing the Panthers do.

Oops and just found out we don't have any C for the visit............

But I'd rather we go for the #1 C in the draft if JPJ is there(Although I don't think he will) or BPA, than drafting the # 6,7,8.. WR in the draft.

That's why we always have mediocre roster under Fitts because he always drafted the high ceiling , freaks athletic project players than the BPA position skill players.

Most of the OL, but especially center and OT you do what you can to keep. unless they get way too expensive or they just aren't performing well, you aren't going to let them go. we've been trying to address it in FA and we just aren't going to be able to do that well.

we need to draft one. there's about 5 in this draft that i would feel really good about and another 4-5 that i think would be ok with.

i mean there's some solid choices available with some decent experience even working in zone blocking schemes so they should be an easy fit. don't see why wouldn't be making it a priority.

i'm just hoping that it's just a matter of not wanting to tip their hat towards someone in particular.

After what we went through last year maaaaaaaan I only want one of the top 3. I have trauma watching that turnstile from last year.

First, I agree, but I am trying to see it from their perspective.  Corbett is a somewhat proven average RG--we know that. But the just paid Hunt $100m to play his position--so why do we think Corbett is a better C?  That is all we know.  But you isolate on the position when I think we need to (in order to see their thinking) step back and look at all the needs.  TE?  To make an upgrade, it would have to be early.  CB?  Horn is a part timer and the other CB is decent.  Hill at 32 is the nickel.  Yikes.  LB?  After Thompson (30) and Jewell (30) who do we have?  WR?  We need 1 or 2.

So it all comes down to what Canales and his crew think about the C position.  Let's hope they see the light.  However, we can count on filling 3 needs in this draft if we are very lucky.  WR will be one of them.  TE could be the other.  So that leaves C, LB, and CB.

In my mocks, I can tell you, if a top 3 or 4 C is there, I take him, fwiw.  I would love to have Barton, fwiw.  He is just a technician and he can do it all.

In my reaction to JayBoogieman, I realized that signing Hunt represents a lack of confidence in Corbett's ability to play his natural position, RG.  If so, why would we assume that he is better than Bozeman at C?  Why would we assume that he would not be a missing link in our $150m guard tandem?  Yet this team is not talking to centers.

I see no signs that they are interested in a center--and they should be.  However, I try to look at it from their tea leaves, not my wish list.

If they're dumb enough to not see the large hole at center, then this duo's tenure is not going to end well. The team's biggest need is a true center. Corbett will fail hard at center if he can even stay healthy. At this stage, Corbett is a high quality backup guard at best. If fans can see the need at center and Dan & Dave can't, they shouldn't have the jobs they've been given.

I imagine Corbett will do well enough if healthy.  Having a rookie to step in if he gets injured again is a big deal, and this is Corbett's last year anyway.  It would be good to our center next year under contract and with some experience and a year in our weight program.

They say Barton has the same leadership skills that Ryan had, plus he has played inside and out.  His knowledge of the line makes him the ideal leader of that position in the future.  If he's available.

I want a CB in the 2nd because we need one so bad, but this draft is to help Bryce now and in the future....WR and C make the most sense, and we're sure we'll have a receiver available.

Also, we don't have a 2nd next year, and I'd rather not take a Center in the first.  We could easily be drafting first next year with no other pick till the 3rd, and we will take the BPA there, edge, corner or true #1 wr probably.  We don't want to walk into next years draft needing a starting C in the draft.  And we just spent big on 2 guards,  and we're already paying Moton.

This is the time to get a center with one of our 2nds.

It would make me question that decision for sure. If they pass on one that falls in their lap it better be for someone well worth it.

I think they realize it and will more likely pursue one in free agency.  Just cant see them putting a rookie center in front of young right now.
