I made it to "Jimmy Clausen and then Bryce Young as basically the worst rookie QBs since 2000..."

That's such a hyperbolic statement too.

Bryce was straight ass cheeks for probably 93% of last season (and I'm probably being generous) but I could still give you a dozen QBs drafted in the first round since 2000 that were far, far worse than he was.

Hell, Pickles was a 2nd rounder, so if the threshold is any round then I honestly don't think BY even cracks the top 5 of *our* worst drafted QBs since 2000.

Let's hear those dozen. Go for it.

Basically Bryce Young has a noodle arm and he won’t fit balls into tight windows.  Too many question marks but we will likely suck cause of Young.

That is not what they said at all. They said he had the two worst starting WR's in all of football and the 3 worst interior guards/center in all of football and its impossible to evaluate. They could count on two hands how many crossing routes the WR's ran, which is ridiculous. "There's a narrative that he's done, he's a bust, but this situation was truly terrible, and just going from awful to average supporting cast/coaching we'll see a true evaluation this year"

Theres 20. That's just the first rounders. Open that up to the 2nd,3rd and 4th rounds the list gets tremendously larger.

Hopefully Bryce turns it around in a big way this year but I'm not expecting much. I'd imagine he ends up going down as another name on this list.

Here's to hoping I'm wrong.

A lot of those guys barely played as rookies.

I'd argue that not being able to beat out an incumbent starter despite being drafted in the first round could also be quantified as a "bad" rookie season.

Still, 12 of those guys played more than 10 games as a rookie.

Again, Im not saying hes a world beater here, in fact I'd wager he's more likely than not to be another name on this long list of 1st round busts, but I also don't think he's even close to being the worst rookie QB since 2000.

Brandon Weeden - 15 games

Josh Rosen 14 games

Paxton Lynch - 5 games

Kenny Pickett - 13 games

Trey Lance - 6 games, starts

David Carr- 16 games

Joey Harrington - 14 games

Patrick Ramsey - 9 games

Kyle Boler - 11 games

JP Losman - 4 games, no starts

Matt Leinart - 12 games

JaMarcus Russell - 4 games, 1 start

Brady Quinn - 1 game, no starts

Josh Freemen - 10 games

EJ Manuel - 10 games

Jake Locker- 5 games, no starts

Johnny Manziel - 5 games, 2 starts

Sam Darnold - 13 games

Dwayne Haskins - 9 games

Zac Wilson - 13 games

Mac Jones - 17 games (probably shouldn't be on here, actually had a solid rookie year)

If you're not playing you can't be considered bad. Aaron Rodgers didn't play either.

I'm just saying I watch a LOT of NFL football and I can't recall anyone not named Jimmy Clausen who looked worse and I'm not just talking stats. I'm talking about judging talent. A guy can put up ugly stats and still show flashes of the prerequisite talent. That's what was disturbing about Clausen and Bryce. They just flat out didn't look like they had NFL QB talent.

You are forgetting the part where Bryce was thrown into the worst situation of all time with the worst OL of all time and WRs that shouldnt be allowed on a practice field.

None of that matters when your QB can't throw it more than 5 yards down the field

What excuses will you use this season ?

He was apparently supposed to be able to overcome being behind the 8 ball front he start.

    • If Mays has a market, which it seems he will, he's gone.  I think we bring back Nijman for too much money to be cautious at LT, Corbett comes back cheap since he's already said he wants to live in CLT, and Christensen eventually gets re-signed with the hopes he can be depth at some point.  Draft an OT, draft a C. The OL might be rough for stretches next year, but time to get some youth there to prepare for Bryce in 2027 or the next QB. I still think we compete for the division in 2026 and can go back to the playoffs unlike the oddsmakers in Vegas, but the *real* year is 2027 IMO. Either Bryce has proven it and he's the QB looking at his 2nd contract, or we have the ready-made team for the next rookie QB or Vet we trade for.
    • The Panthers are going to have a lot more flexibility in free agency than it looks like at first glance. On paper, the cap space might seem tight, but there are several obvious restructure candidates that could easily free up significant room. Between converting base salaries into signing bonuses and spreading cap hits out over future years, Carolina could realistically clear $60–80 million in additional space if they wanted to be aggressive. That kind of flexibility means they’re not stuck. They can extend key young pieces, add help along the offensive line, upgrade the defense, and still be strategic about value signings. Letting Cade Mays test the market makes sense from a leverage standpoint. If he’s willing to come back on a team-friendly deal, great, continuity on the line matters. But if his market price climbs, the Panthers should absolutely explore upgrades. The point is, this front office isn’t boxed in. With cap maneuvering and smart structuring, they have the ability to be active players in free agency rather than sitting on the sidelines like we are used too.
