NFL Loses Sunday Ticket lawsuit

The plaintiffs insist NFL teams pooling their broadcasts through the Sunday Ticket, which is available through YouTube TV for $349/year (or less with discounts), violated antitrust law.  The ruling could compel major changes to the league’s broadcasting arrangements, which last year accounted for 93 of the year’s 100 most-watched TV broadcasts in the U.S

The NFL plans to appeal the ruling, which found the league liable for $4.7 billion to the residential class of plaintiffs and $96 million to the commercial class.

The NFL also warned that if teams were compelled to compete in the licensing of out-of-town broadcasts, it would diminish the number of televised games available to fans. While the Sunday Ticket carries a cost, it ensures that fans can watch any game on TV regardless of their location in the U.S. If out-of-town fans were instead reliant on their favorite team finding a broadcast partner, some could lose TV access to certain games.

In addition to appealing, the NFL will need to consider new broadcasting arrangements that feature teams competing in the sale of broadcasts. The league has maintained that consumers will be worse off without the Sunday Ticket but has economic incentives to ensure the NFL continues its broadcasting dominance—even if that means exploring new ways of teams televising games to out-of-town fans.

So for those of us who would love a Panthers-only Sunday Ticket offer... this was the first thing on the list that needed to happen

Yep glad to see it. I’m still pissed at how ripped off I was last year paying full price Sunday ticket for that poo product of ours, while not watching any other games really

I ain't paying for this sshit product. Too many free sites to watch this sshit show for free.

Darn right. I don’t even get fancy, I just wait until the free replays are uploaded and keep my Sundays for things that don’t make me feel bad.

And we are talking a speed watch missing nothing but filler that takes a little over an hour. Rewatch the interesting parts at your leisure. Listen to those balls quack, watch Icky play like he was a Washington General... all the quality experiences you hate to waste your day on, but don’t want to miss.

The digital age was supposed to make things cheaper. The ability to stream has made things exponentially cheaper for the NFL, but yet (just like most corporations) the charge more and more for their product. I'll be damned if I start paying for their exorbitantly priced Sunday Ticket after all these years. It costs them substantially less to stream than to broadcast. The NFL is full of sh¡t!

I was lucky enough to watch all Panthers game for free locally but I truly feel bad for those that had to pay to watch what we saw on the field last season from some players that were going through the motions all the way up to some coaches (head coach in fact) that didn't give a rats ass what happened.

NFL has truly gone national. Like, they are integral infrastructure to the nation. The government uses them and in turn they use the government. The government is reining them in a bit. I hope some of the everyday NFL  dupes that were held over a barrell get some relief out of it.

Hopefully I can get money back. Hell I have been a subscriber since 07.

Supposedly, subscribers could get $340 for each season they purchased Sunday Ticket (assuming the ruling doesn’t get overturned or reduced through an appeal)

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
