Jay Gruden on Bryce Young: He looks small and plays small

Tall and fast WRs are in every draft.

If your guy is the best WR he will prove it on tape. He had a bad game that's fair. Hopefully those bad games don't become a trend throughout the year. I will be watching tomorrow night that's a fox game.

T-Mac's tape >>>>>>> Hunter's WR tape, it's really not even close if you're only looking at Hutner's offensive side of the ball

Hunter has 92 rec for 1,153 yards, and 12 TDs in his entire career... T-Mac had 90 for 1,402, and 10 just last season alone... with tape that's littered with highlight reel catch after highlight reel catch.

Hunter is a better CB prospect than a WR (and even then, when they played last season, Hunter covered T-Mac and he got torched for 9 rec, 107 yards, and a TD by T-Mac

And saying "tall and fast WRs are in every draft" is just stupid... there are more short/fast WRs in a draft than tall/fast.  Plus, his hands, catch radius, and ability to "moss" DB's are his best attributes, not his speed.  Which again isn't a knock on his speed, but he's not a Quentin Johnston last draft where he's just a big speedster with nothing else and is already looking like a bust.

Hey I know it's not necessarily related to arm strength, but getting finger tackled by linemen and not being able to qb sneak, maybe you wanna bump up your squats or something lol. Can't hurt

Yea I'm not saying he shouldn't do resistance training.  Just saying bench press isn't gonna translate well to QB and could potentially risk his rotator cuffs in a way that doesn't make sense from a risk/reward standpoint.

I mentioned nothing about Hunter. Just saying my eyes are on your guy. I actually like the thought of a potential Mike Evans clone.

Hunter will be the 1st non QB off the board. That's just how I feel.

I like the thought of us trading back for extra picks or potential player.

My eyes will be on Tmac for the rest of the season. Just saying I'm watching like you told me to.

Damn! Jamarcus actually looks slightly better than Bryce in this comparison. That's wild because Jamarcus hardly bothered with memorizing the playbook or watching tape. When it's all said and done, Bryce might end up being the biggest draft bust of all-time considering what we had given up to get him.

Its like you guys were not paying attention when he had one of the worst seasons ever by a QB in 2023.....Did you think that meant just worse than the good QBs? He is total garbage and we can stop blaming the coaches and players around him. Its not them, its him.

I mean I knew Bryce was tracking Wilson closely last season, but it had never occurred to me to compare him to Jamarcus. Now I know, and yikes.

I enjoyed that, watched most of it. Thanks.

Gruden knows a little bit, and I like that he will just say what he thinks rather than temper it to not hurt someone's feelings. I am sure he did temper here and there but it was more honest, less tentative with his words then what I have been exposed to. Seemed confident in what he was saying.

To me, he said a lot of good stuff, but it's still obvious that he doesn't really know what's going on with the team. "Everybody's gotta play better," is about as general as it gets. He's acting like it's last season where Bryce had nothing to work with. I believe that a decent QB could make these skill guys work.

Agreed on a real QB, still need a couple of weeks to get straight. Everything is new on offense.

I was always pointing to week three this year but got so blindsided last week it upset my schedule. I am trying to chill and reset to that. But Sunday has become very big now.

At LV will be very telling.

    • Call me crazy but if you’re in the bottom 7 in efficiency using Zone 84% of the time why not try something else? You paid Jaycee top 5 CB money use him more effectively. Zone is only efficient if you can generate a good pass rush to force a QB into mistakes otherwise you will get picked apart
    • Good Lord this board has become a cesspool of negativity and where fandom becomes something twisted and unrecognizable.
    • Yeah, I could jump right into the unbelievable Bryce debate now that some people are trying to flip the script because Bryce Young has, at most, a handful of decent games as a pro, but that's going to work itself out. Suffice it to say that I've seen better QBs (with an s) in a Panthers uniform, and I've certainly seen better QBs be drafted while we're playing around with Bryce, one of them who beat the crap out of us already this season... Let's forget about Bryce (and his markedly underwhelming play since he's been here); I think that most sane fans will agree that drafting him was an error, but it happens. Sure, it doesn't happen to the tune of King's ransom---including your main receiver---but it happens. You bet, you lose. Speaking of receivers...and betting and losing... Oh, man, we drafted Xavier Legette. Yes, just like with Bryce, I've entered "the dark side." Some Huddlers were telling us from the beginning, and they were right. But, I'm not apologizing for waiting to see what a guy's got before making my decision on him. X was a one-year wonder at South Carolina who parlayed some really nice production that season, a great personality and thick country accent, into becoming a first round pick (but only in Carolina). For Dan Morgan and company, He was a big swing that has turned into a big whiff (and I can still feel the ill breeze from that one). Sh¡t happens, right? Well, not so fast. Ladd McConkey was the decidedly more polished receiver who was literally ready to hit the ground running as soon as stepping onto the field as a pro. Ladd was never the biggest guy (though not the smallest), but he was the guy that could run routes, always seemed to get open---no question---and had the same speed as X, but with legit quickness and nuanced shake and bake. But Dan chose the project. He chose the guy where the game speed looks more like a tractor trailer than a 5.0 mustang. Look, I've supported X (just like Bryce) many many a day, but no more. Now I'm not saying that I won't root for the guy. Just like with Bryce, he seems like a great kid. But as far as giving excuses for the kid, and, perhaps more importantly, waiting for some miraculous breakout, I'm done with that. I've seen enough. You don't draft a project for a project. And yes, Bryce had proven to be a project after his first season. In my mind, drafting a supposedly number one receiver that needs lots of development for a starting quarterback that needs immediate help to try and further his development is not going to lead to good things. Pick the surest guy. Or at least pick the one who appears to be the surest guy, because picking can be tricky... especially when you're too busy tricking yourself.
