I've already explained this. You put the team in a worse position to win as HC or GM. Whether that's putting players on IR who could still play, calling vanilla game plans, or putting in younger guys for PT. Doing it at week 3 is damn near impossible, but if you're 1-11 with 5 games to go and look like ass anyway, yeah, you can mail it in and try to improve/keep your pick.

Indy did it for Peyton Manning. Ron tried to do it to not go to the playoffs a 2nd time with a losing record. The Jets failed to do it for Trevor Lawrence. It can be done, just not in week 3.

So you do this at 1-11, but not at 0-3? That's the threshold?

question i keep asking everyone...do you tell the players to just not try so hard? Do you tell the coaching staff to throw games by calling bad plays or keeping good players off the field?

how do you accomplish this?

You are attempting to debate people that think Madden is basically IRL, not people who have any concept of high level sports.

Good luck with that.

Start 0-3 against KC, Baltimore, and Detroit. All playoff bound teams. Bad start but it can be overcome for a good team. It's still possible to rattle off 10 or 1 1 wins and win the division or wild card. 1-11, even if you finish 5-0, you aren't going anywhere at 6-11. Players know it too and aren't going to put their bodies more at risk like they would if it was playoff contention when it doesn't matter unless it's a contract year. How many times have we said ****** players have quit on <insert> HC? It happens every damn year.

It doesn't happen with 10 games left. With 1 or 2, it does happen. It has happened.

Don't let @tukafan21 see this.

I'll speak for me, but Tmac is not just your regular big body WR. He runs routes like a smaller WR. He's a deep threat, medium threat and he a guy you can run screens for and he makes something happen as a ball carrier. He's like Mike Evans and AJ Green combined.

It would be hard to pass him up if he's on the board.

I do see some Mike Evans in there, it's just not really the style of receiver I would really want to add with the guys we have now.  All that said if he ends up really good then it doesn't matter.

2020 draft players who were drafted AFTER we picked..Ceedee Lamb, JORDAN LOVE, Justin Jefferson, Tee Higgins, Jalen Hurts ect

2021 I would take Horn over Sewell all day every day. All Pro corner over a all-pro right tackle. Other players AFTER our pick...Surtain, Devonte Smith, Rashawn Slater.

2022 was not the Young draft that was the draft where we got Ickey

So the end result is it's no reason to tank there will be good players throughout the draft, it's on the team to identify and draft them.

Horn is not an all pro, people in here overrate our players. He’s good to very good when he plays but until he actually gets named an all pro, he isn’t one like Sewell and Chase have been multiple times. We’d have a better team overall with either of these two. Sewell would be a LT for us, he was all through college and switched over for Decker.

Yes, there are always great players all over the draft, it happens. My point was that we could be a vastly more talented team if we just lost one more game in 2019/2020.

I probably should have put 2023 since I was referring to the draft dates in the other two but I was focusing more on the end of the year run than the 2023 draft I couldn’t really peg where we would have ended up. Too many variables.

Like I said in another post Horn may not be an All-pro but Surtain and Parsons are and they BOTH were drafted after Sewell. So again there is no need to tank to draft well.

No and that’s part of the silliness in these discussions. Tanking has zero to do with coaches/players. Tanking has everything to do with the GM/front office.

Here’s how I would have tanked in 2022:

1. Let Rhule tank the season with his greatness.

2. Trade CMC to SF.

3. Trade Burns to the Rams for that ridiculous haul.

4. Trade Moore to Packers for their 1st.

5. Trade whoever else we could that has value as a good vet and probably isn’t even on the team in 2025+.

I tank by trading away the big time talent and piling up picks and cap space. I do this because I supposedly want to draft a QB high so I want my 2023 pick to be as high as possible.

i don't like it, but this is better than going to the coaches and players and saying..."hey, for the good of the team, take the foot off the gas."

i want nothing to do with that. i doubt any players or coaches would and for good reason.

Well, the “best” case scenario IMHO for the 2021 draft is pick 3 and trade it to the 49ers. I would have taken Parsons or Slater with the 2021 first (12). No idea who I would have taken in 2022 (Cole Strange was the pick) and 2023 (maybe Kincaid or Flowers). That would have been a nice haul if we had 1 more loss because the SOS would have moved us from 8 to 3.

That’s not real tanking to ask the team and coaches to lose on purpose. Honestly, I don’t think you really can do that. Remember Doug Pederson getting fired? That was so ridiculously obvious that he put a trash QB in to lose on purpose to improve their draft pick. I don’t think I’ve ever seen it outside of that one game and it got the coach fired and that wasn’t players not trying. That was putting in a QB who had no business ever playing.

You see real tanking in the NBA and MLB every year, although the NFL’s trade deadline is getting more active lately.

I used to be all about tanking to get the #1 pick.

We suck at that. So just start winning again and building this teams confidence. We'll still get an elite player in the Top 10.

Thank you!  Looking at the top 4 quarterbacks in the league and only 1 was picked #1 overall.  It was beyond clear that Burrow was going to be good.  Along with Cam he had the greatest season ever.  Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Pat Mahomes were all drafted later in the 1st.

These guys coming out aren’t a guarantee. Next year there are some bonafide studs.

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
