Luvu & Chinn

Evero isn't nearly as good as some around here think. Playing Chinn at FS was a giant red flag. Dude took over a good D and it regressed while here he hasn't built anything for the next guy worth trying to prop up or anything much to blow up either. He is a jag coach and little more.

I will never trust Evero after watching him pound the table and make the team draft DJ Johnson.

How about all of them? I think the Jackson trade was the only one that was clearly good. The rest are meh.

I am not sure how the narrative has become "we got rid of Luvu." He wanted to leave and go play for Dan Quinn, which was a very smart move on his part.

Chinn was a square peg that Evero couldn't use. Frankly, he wasn't the only DC with that issue. Organizationally, going back to Matt Rhule GM, they had literally always said they wanted him to be a DB. So, that is generally where all the resources were spent in his development. Unfortunately, he was never able to become anything but a liability in coverage, so that sort of defeats the purpose of being a DB. So that blame stretches back long before Evero was here.

Frankly, Chinn needed a fresh start somewhere else.

Luvu didn't want to be here for whatever reason. offer was made, he wanted to go somewhere else.

Chinn...for whatever reason none of the DCs we had could figure out what to do with him. a lot of talent. no direction. they are getting something out of him that we couldn't.

Yeah, ain't nothing we could have done about it. This spilled milk isn't worth crying over.

I liked them both as players so I am happy to see them doing well.

My understanding is they did try to sign Luvu but he went to Washington for a similar deal or less money to play for Quinn. Can't blame him for that

Chinn needed a restart. He's a talented player that I'm not sure we ever figured out how to use correctly. I still think about last year at TC where it was clear he didn't really have a position on the team

When it comes to picking personnel, I do believe that coaches should approach it one of two ways.

Either build a system/style based on the abilities of your players, or get players that match the system you want to build.  Our coaching staffs for the last 6 years followed neither pattern, especially with a guy like Chinn.  Talented player who needed to be in a certain style of defense, and our multiple staffs couldn't adapt.

i don't like that it's with the commanders for some reason. but i just don't lie that they have been doing well anyways. not sure what team i would have been happy them going to, though. i wish they could have been a big part of what we're doing here and make the defense here better, but whatever.

Fair but we also can tailor our entire scheme around a player that really is not an elite player at an elite position.

I love Chinn but he didn't fit what we were doing and our plans for him didn't work out. It just is what it is.

You know, I don't hate the Redskins as much without Snyder there. They are so far removed from their glory years or even hope of glory that I rarely even see their fans in NC anymore. Because of that, they annoy me far less than in the 90's and 2000's.

it was rhule/snow second second when they moved Chinn to FS and struggled

Evero tried playing Chinn at nickel instead but that didn't worked either

Luvu was smart to take the largest contract he could.

Chinn regressed year over year.

Because after nearly winning DROY, and he should have realistically, the coaching staff decided to move him out of the position he was dominating. Opposing offenses couldn't neutralize him, so our coaching staff did it for them.

    • Frank Reich, Ryan Poles get honest about challenges of developing No. 1 pick QB.  *Reich: My handling of offensive system "probably made it more difficult for Bryce (Young)" *Poles: From 24-25. tone changed from bridging Caleb Williams to 'tough love'   https://x.com/jfowlerespn/status/1957857880276705508?s=46
    • As bad as AR has been, the Panthers would’ve been better off right now, if they had stayed at #9 in 2023 and picked him instead of doing what they did.  At least this way, they would’ve only wasted one draft pick vs what they gave up to pick BY. And they would have kept the #1 pick in the 2024 draft.
    • I felt pretty good about us making progress this season, surprising some people, and getting some more wins than last season going into it.  Now, after preseason, my expectations are much, much lower. I was talking with my friend who is a Bears fan, and we were discussing their drubbing of the Bills and how people try to dismiss it as “preseason, so it doesn’t count.”  It absolutely counts.  Not the wins or losses.  No one really cares about that.  But what the Bears are doing shows that even in a vanilla, non-specific scheme, they are executing at an elite level and they are disciplined.  It shows they are well coached.  They see growth in their players.  Versus us - hard to tell what we’re looking at because everything is a fuging mess.  In games we’re still undisciplined, be it penalties or assignments.  We do NOT execute.  We got random coaches calling plays that won’t be calling plays during the season, we have our players getting into fights in the last padded practice of the preseason, then we have Bryce and Chuba trying to correct it while our coach sat off to the side laughing.  To be clear, I like Canales.  He seems like a good dude.  But, it feels like we have very little direction and discipline.  You’re allowing a team who has been historically bad the last almost decade, with a losing culture that mostly bereft of talent to self-police?  You’re allowing subordinates to work in pet projects at the expense of getting valuable reps and evaluation of players in during games?     My friend literally brought up last night that when Ben Johnson got there he essentially put DJ Moore in notice because it was starting to be perceived that he was displaying some diva-behavior.  That’s leadership.  And they’re reaping the benefits early and setting a tone.  My friend said there is an excitement and confidence in and around their team that’s he’s never felt his entire life.  And here we are, sounding and looking like The Bad News Bears in our final week of training camp and preseason.  I literally stopped watching after halftime last week.  I used to watch every play faithfully, even in 2001 and 2010.  It was fun.  This isn’t.  We are bad and our administration keeps making bad decisions to compound things.  Reading poo like this today is just fuging deflating.
