Bring in Kuechly as a LB coach, grooming him to be DC in a few years

And if Luke doesn't want to move from the radio booth to the coaching sidelines, at least give Luke a 2nd job of giving regular lessons on how to watch/interpret film

Honestly, I cannot believe that we didn't even have a CONVERSATION with Robert Saleh before retaining Evero.  The guy took the worst defense in the league and turned them into a borderline top 10, sometimes top 5 defense.  They were on course do be the same again this year before he was fired.

But nah, we good.

Who says they didn't? We have absolutely no idea what all goes on behind the scenes, be it the coaching staff, free agents, or anything else. No reason to automatically assume that anything the public didn't hear about never happened... in fact, I'd say that a sign of a good staff and FO is the ability to operate without everyone knowing every detail.

There was no way Saleh comes here. 49ers most likely landing spot, but too many better DC positions out there. Why would he come to Carolina over going back to 49ers or even going to Bengals? I just never saw it as a realistic possibility.

Maybe they did and he said nah, I'm good.

How about the fact that Saleh is a Packers coach and we can't talk to him due to the Packers still being in the playoffs?

We absolutely did not consider our options . . . because we still aren't sure what all the options are given staff turnover around the league.

I have no personal beef with Evero, but damn.  The guy had exactly one year of DC experience before he came here.  That one year of experience in Denver was taking over a defense that was previously 3rd in the league and they became . . . 12th.  He has no coordinator level experience turning around a defense or building one from the ground up.

I hope it works out, but I suspect we're going to be sitting here next offseason with the same issues.

As if him being currently employed actually prevents anything... come on now. That's exactly why there wouldn't be anything publicly known, but we aren't naive enough to think that the conversations like that don't take place. They absolutely do, and quite often, in one way or another. It's the same thing with fans declaring "Why didn't we talk to So-and-So player?!?" when they sign with someone else; in many cases preliminary conversations took place, it was just clear it wasn't going to work and there was no upside to either party disclosing that. Exact same thing that happens in every business and industry in the world.

With respect to Evero, I've never been a big fan and don't like the kind of scheme he runs (which is not exclusive to him or Carolina these days). I do believe/am willing to give the benefit of the doubt that if Canales and Morgan (or any other staff in this situation) thought a better option was available and viable at this time, they explored it before this particular news about Evero staying came out.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
