Who needs to come back, who needs to be the first cut, ( besides Ian Thomas). Time to move on from Shaq and start fresh?

▪ Impending free agents: If this beat writer was in Brady Christensen’s shoes, I’d look to head elsewhere for better pay and a guaranteed starting job. But if he can’t and that opportunity, the Panthers getting him back would be a huge boost for the ofensive line. Otherwise, the rest of the re-signing options are pretty much toss-ups.

Long snapper JJ Jansen and punter Johnny Hekker have value beyond their job titles. Cornerback Mike Jackson, tight end Tommy Tremble and wide receiver David Moore really t in well with the culture, and all three played well in pretty big spots this season.

Andy Dalton wants to return, and with Bryce Young in the QB1 seat, keeping that room together makes sense.

Feleipe Franks and Sam Franklin are logical targets for re-signing because of their value on special teams. Re-signing Austin Corbett and Cade Mays to compete at center is a logical, costeective strategy that seems to align with the way the Panthers will approach their already expensive trench group

I’m tired of seeing him always trying to go for the knockout hits (which he doesn’t even do right most of the time) instead of wrapping up and missing easy tackles.

While on the subject:

 

The Panthers saw enough in Ekwonu to make him the first offensive tackle off the board in the 2022 NFL Draft. It's been a rollercoaster ride, but the player's determination in the face of adversity should be rewarded.

 

This is not going to be cheap. According to recent projections from Over the Cap, Ekwonu's fifth-year option will cost the Panthers around $18.42 million, which is based on the lineman's playing time throughout his stint in the league so far.

Exception is Cade Mays, he's going to be re-signed and I think we're bringing back Austin Corbett on a 1 year deal to compete with Mays at OC. 

This would be a cheaper option that attempting to re-sign Brady Christensen

      Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.

      I don't think Canales has any problem benching Bryce or moving on if Bryce doesn't come out playing like the end of last year.  It's year 3 no more excuses for Bryce
