Anyone converted your existing pool to saltwater system?

Strongly considering it, but weighing the upfront cost and if feasible or not.

What did it cost you...yearly maint cost.

I can do the installation more than likely, but what did it entail.

Easier on eyes (which sounds backwards), but chlorine can get expensive. Sometimes up to $100+ just to open it. Supposedly the salt systems are around $100 for an entire season.

There are a few things to factor in- pool size, location, and use are the biggest factors. The cost of a salt water system can pay for itself fairly quickly if the pool gets heavy usage.

Something I am considering doing myself.

A guy I work with just converted his pool from chlorine to salt. He had someone come in and do it and said it cost about $2,000. Which really isn't that bad. He says that it is a whole lot easier to maintain and the cost of running it is way down.

No constant monitoring of the water. There is a sensor and when the salt level is too low a light flashes and he pours in another bag.

Sounds pretty good to me.

Probably so, look how barren the oceans are. Nothing can live in that salty brine.

In the process of having a pool installed and decided to go with a chlorine pool after weighing all of the pros and cons. Everyone I talked to has said that salt water pools have their advantages/disadvantages just like chlorine pools do.

It took over 2 days to fill up the pool (31,000 gallons) but it is finally full! Now if the concrete guys would show up I would be ready to party!!

I honestly never knew people put in salt water pools at all, learn something new each day I guess. I couldn't handle the salt taste and all that unless it's not as bad as the ocean?
