why preaseason matters

Defensive line for sure. Who knows if no one impresses at DT we might still pick someone else up when teams cut down to 53.

Receiver and punt returner/kickoff returner will be big competitions. Hopefully we actually find a returner who can take it to the house. We drafted a ton of guys in the secondary, it will be interesting to see if we come up with more gems like we did with the Captain and Martin.

Finally the second and third spots at quarterback will be very interesting as well.

This will be the most interesting preseason for the Panthers in a long time. We have a young team and we're facing a pretty good lineup, so it's reasonable to expect a rough ride.

I won't be as concerned about going 0-4 this preseason as I was last preseason if that happens. Under the best of circumstances, it's fair to expect some growing pains. The good news is that a young team like ours can improve allot in a short span of time.

pre season does not matter. you only get to see who the better backup is. also, alot of players dont play hard during preseason, skewing the perception of how good the opposing teams players are.

Exactly what everyone said last year, look what happened.

This will be the most exciting preseason in Panthers history, excluding the 1st one.

Agreed, and it might be the most important one since the first too.

To some teams, it isn't as important, and to some the guys need all the work they can get.

Traditionally, I'd normally agree with you. Our Preseason has been reflective of our regular season in terms of what the starters are doing and the backups we keep.

But I have a feeling that with all the changes this year... our preseason is going to be a reversal of what happens when it matters. There are too many people fighting for jobs, which can actually be counter-productive.

Why? When you get that kind of competition to start, there will be a lot of up-front effort in Camp and in the Pre-season games. But once the starters have been decided, that intensity will die down. The starters will relax a bit, and the back-ups will be dismayed for losing the position battle.

Of course, I admit this could be horribly wrong. But lets check back after September and see.

    • I agree it does seem the league is against Charlotte but the picks they've made have been questionable. They've had sure fire picks fall to them and they keep trying to build a army of forwards who cannot shoot for some reason lol. You got to make a move in offseason and or trade for scoring. I get the best aren't coming to Charlotte but theres been opportunities at solid players with experience, that would've come just to be the man here in Charlotte. They got to stop over thinking this in the draft too. Take the best scorers available! I'm hearing we need more size on the wing, a big man, great defender, etc. but nothing about scoring or a shot creator. This team has been terrible at shooting the rock especially from the perimeter and its a iso 3 ball league, no one plays defense or really runs an offense. This franchise does not do well with developing players either. I've seen too many guys take huge leaps once they were away from Charlotte which is concerning. And even more concering that they're taking developmental guys when they have no business doing so. So, All that to say take a proven scorer, high basketball IQ guy, a unpolished player will not survive here.
