The Shemar has no production thing is not true unless you only look at sacks. He’s very disruptive. However he needs to convert more of his pressure in to sacks, though I think that will come. But it’s not like he’s invisible when he’s on the field. I’m intrigued by him overall as an edge in our 3-4.
 

Here’s from Dane Brugler:

Stewart explodes out of his stance and is capable of creating immediate knockback or winning high side with upfield burst/flexibility.

He is the type of prospect who will test the “traits over production” slogan to which many NFL teams subscribe, as he never had more than 1.5 sacks in any of his three seasons. However, his tape shows a far more disruptive player than his numbers suggest — he led the Aggies in pressures (39) in 2024.

They’re both way too high of risks at 8 for the ceilings they have. I wouldn’t risk these toolsy/high-potential guys in our spot. History shows it is not kind… but Morgan tends to show his cards and has tunnelvision from what I’ve seen. Hope this doesn’t hold too much water

If they’re willing to consider these two and want the size with the even higher potential, I’d rather take Grant or heck, even Harmon on the DL instead of two rather underwhelming EDGES.

Deep down you know he's gonna pull the trigger on Stewart. It's the same reason he took XL over Ladd

To me if you draft either of these guys it's a bet on your ability to develop them. So who is our d-line coach? I'm embarrassed to say I didn't know off the top of my head because normally that would be second nature to me (the last few years have really hurt my fandom lol)

Todd Wash- ok let's dig into him a bit more

From the Panthers website:

Todd Wash is in his second season as defensive line coach for the Carolina Panthers. Before joining the team, he held the same position with the Detroit Lions during 2021 and 2022 seasons. Wash brings 29 years of coaching experience, including 18 seasons in the NFL, to this staff.

 

But going back further he was the defensive coordinator in Jacksonville from 2016-2020. THAT gets me more excited as those were some good defenses back then. 

 

 

I understand the risk of picking a guy at 8 like Shemar but the truth is you can't find his type of talent elsewhere in the draft, usually not even outside the top 15. I'm fine with swinging for the fences.

Mykel is the one that concerns me. He was one of the guys mid season that I was not impressed with at all while watching UGA..he not only looked lost at times during games but just straight up disappeared. And people will tout his run defense, he’s above average but in no ways elite from what I’ve gathered. 

Stewart generated consistent disruption and it’s evident on his reels you can find of snaps. He was a surprisingly fun watch for not having major sack line— but the pressure to sack conversion is a bit of a question mark.

So at #8, we better not just have our sights on a particular guy, especially these two. Have the board, see what top talent somehow falls, stick to it, trust your staff’s work. If we just lock in and reach again, it would be a disappointing trend to see in Morgan.

If we trade down, I'd probably consider Ezeiruaku over these two, especially Mykel.    

Grant NT, Donavon EDGE, Harmon DE all have more production, are more developed, with just as high ceilings. If we go this route, I hope I'm wrong.  But if this is actually who we end up with, it will be somewhat of a piercing indictment on our drafting abilities.  Rather, the inability to be mindful of the board and how it falls without getting too locked in.

Agree with this. Mykel is a hard no. If you think you can start converting pressures into sacks for Stewart, I’m all in.

      Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.

      Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
