Beason confirms move to the weakside...

you don't understand football if you think switching a middle linebacker of Beason's caliber to WLB (which is a much less key position) is no big deal.

You don't understand the tampa 2 defense if you think WLB is a much less key position than MLB.

If this works, bye bye Thomas Davis (UFA after this season).

Why?

He could play Sam.

Unfortunatley..FoxCo doesn't have a great track record about keeping players who were injured in two straight seasons (i.e. Kemo, Jenkins, etc)

Smittys really the only exception.

Whatever.

I mean really, who can name the Bucs' Will in their SB season? And what Tampa fan DOESN'T have a Shelton Quarles jersey in their closet?

Will is the side where the TE doesn't usually lineup

That is true. But it depends on the shell you are using. Lets use a cover 2 for example. The Will has the running back coming out of the backfield in coverage. Or if they use a slot receiver the Will often has him short to intermediate and hands him off to the safety deep or the Mike on a drag route over the middle He has to be ablr to still recover and get the running back in the flat which is alot of ground to cover. If they send the TE in motion to the weakside and aren't using a slot receiver then the Will is in coverage and the SAM is free to blitz. I know this is simplistic and there are lots of variations but the Will has to be very quick and cover a lot of ground.

Here is a brief discussion about some of the possibilities.

Yeah I know it is madden but the principles are the same. LOL

I thought Derrick Brooks was the WLB in the Tampa Defense. Typically its the position in this defense that has the opportunity to make the most plays as they have more options and can use their nose for the ball.

That said, I don't like this move. Beason is a stud MLB. I don't know if he has the speed or coverage skills to excel at WLB. Big risk.

Not necessarily. When you take out a linebacker and put in another DB, it is typically the SAM. Then the other 2 linebackers just play halves so it isn't really the middle it is one side of the field or the other. Other times team take out a DT and put one of the linebackers on the line to rush or drop back in coverage depending on what the plan is.

I understand that but I wasn't clear about it. I would think Connor would come out in the Nickel and leave Anderson/Beason. And if we start putting more LB on the line (which we might and I hope we do) it'll more than likely be norwood.
