They cannot afford to whiff on this Tershawn signing. He better produce for what they’re paying. I don’t believe for a second there was another team offering anything close to this

I don't either. I think it was a massive overpay and panic move. Overall free agency has been a pretty mixed bag for us, IMO. But it was last offseason too.

OTC shows it as: $26,699,732

Spotrac shows it as: $27,791,607

is that updated because if it is that tells me the next years we are going be up against it again and secondly Morgan isnt done.  Why keep that much if you dont need to.  He should have front loaded more if he doesnt spend that. So I am thinking something else is up

I think a couple of deals still haven't posted. Plus, you figure we have the cap for the rookie deals and we probably sign some other warm bodies along the way.

Ideally, we try to roll at least half that number. You have to consider we have two "premium" positions that decisions will need to be made on in the coming future, QB and LT. Those will be large chunks of money if those players are retained.

Until its accurately updated its hard to really understand it, but I am pretty sure 26 and 27 we are going to be tight as well I could be wrong but we have some big contracts already on the books

I looked at 26 and we have about $89 mil but that is for 26 players with two contracts still yet to be posted. Overall, that's not great. Not terrible but we still have to fill out half a roster with moderately limited resources.

Lots of time to tinker, though. There are 5 total void hits for 2026.

49ers have blown up their roster

The 49ers have lost nine starters from their 2024 roster with eight of those nine leaving in free agency. The NFL's other 31 teams have been scooping up the 49ers' free agents: They've spent $321 million on 49ers players, which is the most money EVER spent on a team's departing free agents.

NFL teams were more than happy to sign all the players that the 49ers have given up on. So what's actually going on in San Francisco? It blowing up the roster going to work? We took a closer look at the situation here

"Blowing up" is hyperbolic. They have been handing out massive contracts for 2-3 years now so eventually they were going to be forced to make tough choices. Plus they are now gonna have to actually pay their QB something above a dollar store rate. This was a predictable situation(there had been several articles on it over the past two seasons).

The question is how much of an impact it will have on their overall outcome. Is it a retool or a mild rebuild?

It's not all that serious. It's a good size deal but not as big as people are making it out to be. And I'm relatively sure there were other teams in the mix. Wharton wasn't the only DT with his age/production to be paid big money.

Every year people freak out about the cap and every year the Panthers spend.  Caps a myth and can manipulated to get what you want

    • You know, there's something about this whole JAG thing that really just drives home the idea that to some folks, these players aren't real people, just names and stats.  Of course, it goes beyond sports. We're a sad, jaded species, us humans.
    • I hope we get no featured games, or only one if that's still a thing Don't like having to subscribe to a service just to see the panthers play a single game, i'm looking at you peacock Football is made for sunday afternoons Word
    • Yeah, it's just dumb. Everything is year to year. I never understood how anyone could stay engaged as a Kentucky fan or duke fan as duke became a one and done factory like Calipari made Kentucky. The thing I liked at about UNC is that we primarily focused on recruits likely to play multiple years. We'd have pur occasional one and done but most of our pros still played multiple years. And the days of the Stackhouses, Wallace, Jamison, Carter, etc. playing multiple years is just over. And now you have your role players entering the portal every year to test the waters elsewhere. I don't blame them for looking out for themselves but just personally speaking I'll run out of interest quickly trying to get to know a whole new roster year over year.
