Who has been doing kickoffs at camp besides Jugs? Has Carter been doing them all or has Baker been doing it as well. Seems I read he was going to do doing them as well . Especially in the event that we need to keep a few others guys on the roster to make up for injuries.

Kasay will never do kickoffs again because of that botched superbowl kick.

wrong, he will never do kickoffs again because his leg needs to remain fresh for fieldgoals. if the coaching staff didn't have confidence in him as a kicker he'd have been gone long ago.

I go into every season with a positive and optimistic view point. Usually doesn't take long to be disappointed, but I would rather be positive and right than negative and right. Not saying you're being negative, but it seems like some people like being assholes just so they can say "I told you so."

John Kasay has not been able to reach the endzone on kickoffs for about 4 years now.

Although he has better career numbers than the only kicker in the Hall of Fame, Jan Stenerud, he's never been held accountable for the kickoff that cost Carolina the Super Bowl. Of course, there's no telling how New England would have handled starting at their own 20 versus their own 45... I'm just sayin'.

Lloyd averaged 66.7 yards per kickoff last season- which translates to every kickoff returner starting 2 yards deep in the end zone. Of course, 29.1% of his kickoffs were touchbacks and were never returned. Special teams averaged giving up 24.8 yards per return- which means opposing teams basically started at their own 23 yard line with Lloyd kicking off.

The last time Kasay did any kickoff duties was 2007 and looking at his career kickoff numbers, he's never been able to reach the end zone on average. 2007 was his last full season of kickoffs and he averaged 60.5 yards, which means the opposing teams were catching the ball at the 5. 2006 and 2005 were in the 63-yard range and 2004 was below 60.

Couple these with the fact Carolina's special teams have never been a very good kickoff coverage team, Lloyd was at least 6 yards longer than Kasay and we can only hope Baker or someone else does the kickoff duties for the sake of field position.

For those of you who believe John Kasay not only walks on water, but also creates the water he walks on, I apologize for having blasphemed in this post. Sorry, but if it were up to me I'd give him a new jersey that said "Jurassic" across the back.

      Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.

      I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
