Should Matt Moore feel pressured by Clausen?

You're kidding, right? Moore is still a noob. Looking at it from the perspective of experience, Moore is like a teenager when it comes to Delhomme and Gross. He hasn't proven himself. He doesn't have it like that.

It is only natural and logical for Moore to feel some pressure, and even more after Clausen's poised performance in his NFL debut. Anyone that thinks otherwise doesn't have the experience to answer the question.

Sorry, I don't assume that Moore is a "noob" relative to the fact he's the only QB on the roster with an NFL snap, so I won't assume he has to prove himself, either. Delhomme had proven even less than Moore in 2003 when he sprinted into the huddle in 2003 to take over for Peete.

Nor do I believe that Clausen's performance was any more "poised" than Moore's. So, since I do not agree with your opinions, I'm guessing I don't have the experience you require to answer your question... which was what, again?

I'll give you the Saints and Bucs.

The Giants on the other hand, had everything to play for. At the time of that game the Giants were still in playoff contention. Not only were their playoff hopes still alive, they were playing in their last game ever at Giants Stadium, with a lot of their legendary former players in attendance.

I'll have to agree with you on the Giants, i thought they were out of contention and i forgot about the last game in that stadium. I still would like to see him play a full season before i jump on the bandwagon but i have a feeling by week 4 it will be JC. The Front office wouldn't of been looking to trade up to the 1st round to get Clausen if they thought Moore could get it done.

He should. Fox doesn't like Moore (obviously, Jake had to look terrible in four or five games before Fox finally put Moore in), and he is good friends with Clausen's college coach. I bet the main thing Fox asked Weis was this...is he SMART enough to be an NFL quarterback? Because Fox thinks Moore is a dumbass. I would bet you that Clausen may even start the opener. Remember Fox's first year?

Alright; let's slow down people. Do we mean Moore should feel pressured because of Clausen's performance or other factors?

If by Clausen's performance... no.

If by some coaching decision or next-year type prediction ("Will Clausen take over the starting job next year?"), then possibly.

Speaking of pressure situations..i really have to poo.

Anyway, Moore has obviously been feeling the pressure from Clausen since the day he was drafted. For the OTA's and first part of training camp, the rumors were that they didn't even speak to each other often. And, if they did it was in passing; nothing substantial. Barring those inquiries were true, Moore has been sweating since April. I think last night will prob make Moore realize that the gap between him and Clausen might not be as large as everyone, or even him, wants to think. FWIW

Moore will play his hardest regardless of what Clausen does. This is his first year to begin the year as a starter and he knows everyone is counting on him. In football that means a lot. Plus he wants to prove that last year was no fluke.

And the number 1 reason is that he is in a contract year whether it is here or elsewhere. He wants the 6-10 million a year salary for a quarterback getting a long-term contract.

You're kidding, right? The media and fanbase asked for Moore to "at least have a shot in one game" for the better part of an entire season while Jake threw picks left and right and suffered through one miserable performance after another. Moore never got his opportunity until Jake got hurt. Why on Earth would anyone suggest that anything will be different?

Look around the NFL- just how often do you see a QB get benched for a bad outing or 2? The frequency of that occurrence is extremely rare in the NFL, regardless of the position.

Hell, Jordan Gross had a bad night, why don't we all start calling for his replacement?

Because Moore has 8 career starts and hasn't looked like much more than a game manager. Truth is, nobody really knows just yet what to expect from Moore. He is still new to the league, teams are still learning about him. Gross on the other hand is one of the best at his position and has proven it year in and year out. When you are unproven and have a bad night there will be a lot of questions. When you are proven and have a bad night, people just chalk it up to a bad night.

The question is "Should Matt Moore feel pressured by Clausen?" IMHO, no one can say that he shouldn't---with a straight face, that is.

If you want to believe that Moore has nothing to prove, well...OK. Delhomme had an aging, ineffective, Rodney Peete to overcome when he sprinted into the huddle in 2003. He came in and did well, and even surpassed most persons' expectations, and that's why he had the confidence of the coaches and his colleagues for so many years, even to the point where he was basically given an extraordinarily long rope to save our season last year, even though he was throwing the season away, and hanging himself in the process. Moore only has "relatively" a few games under his belt---and, arguably, 40-50 percent of which really didn't count for much to either squad. Right or wrong, it is the opinion of many that if Moore's season (which, arguably, includes the pre-season) starts going south, then Moore will be yanked off the field. in other words, Moore is on a short rope. Moore is going to get his opportunity, unless Clausen puts on a Manning or Brady-esque performance throughout the pre-season (and most agree that even if he did, Moore would still get the start come the regular season). Granted, Moore is not Peete, but neither is the much pedigreed and ballyhooed Clausen, Jake Delhomme. Unlike you apparently do, I don't think that Moore's relatively few snaps as an NFL QB puts him light years ahead of the "golden-haired" Clausen in the eyes of the coaches, writers, or fans of the NFL.

Lastly, i didn't say that Clausen's performance was any more "poised" than Moore's. What I will say is that "relatively", Clausen's performance was more impressive than Moore's because of expectations. Clausen's performance, by most accounts, against the Ravens' second team D looked pretty good for a rookie who was taking his first snaps as an NFL QB, and Moore's performance against the Ravens' first team D looked OK (if not a little lackluster). It's all just opinion, though, based on one pre-season game.

If Moore isn't feeling any pressure, then he is either blind and deaf, or just has ice water in his veins. From the time that Clausen was picked, Moore was put on notice. And in my mind, the notice hasn't disappeared. When Moore meets or exceeds expectations for this 2010 season, then he can stop looking over his shoulder, even if it's only in his peripheral vision.

Moore needs to feel pressure because this is his make or break year weather he likes it or not. If he does a great job he likely earns himself a nice paycheck somewhere else or if he flops he likely gets a small raise over what he is making now but becomes the backup. Either way he needs to perform.

Well I don't want it to happen at all, but I'd put $5 on Clausen getting a shot if Matty has three awful games in a row. KEY WORD: awful.

Feel free to take the bet, Anybodyhome. But like I said, I don't wish anything poor on Moore.

This reminds of the stupid Jake is going to feel pressure due to David Carr in 2007. What was true then is true now. Professional athletes at this level put pressure on themselves or they don't get this far. He started acting differently when he got the raise and Jake was let go not when Jimmy got here.

Moore would do the same thing whether Clausen was here or not. Quarterbacks know that it is all about what have you done lately and there is always someone looking over your shoulder ready to take your job. Clausen playing well didn't put more pressure on Moore and in the locker room Moore is still the starter. It is only out in the media where folks have been slobbing on Clausen for months that everyone is saying that Clausen is going to be the starter. Moore will look laid back no matter what but has to be extremely competitive or you don't get to this level. He continues to handle the controversy with grace and humor. And in the end he has never looked bad in any regular season game and won't now.

Moore haters are just trying to create controversy where there isn't any.
