Returner Options May Come Availble

I definitely believe we will pick up a PR if someone decent comes available.

After the first two games, I am actually coming around to Zod's idea that a vet WR will be signed.

With the way the defense looks...with the OLine we have....with the RB's we have....this team could definitely be a serious contender with a #2 WR and a decent return game.

This may not be a rebuilding year after all.

There is a problem with your logic and that is that we are in a rebuilding year... what did we tear down and fix other than Dline? QB is still up in the air in my mind but either QB is viable to start and one of three WRs (Moore, Jarrett, Lafell) in my mind are competing for the #2 spot, and not doing a good job. But without that #2 WR surety, we have plenty of talent offensively that we already are a serious contender.

Only hindrance our team has right now is of course our return game. We cannot enter the season without that but we can figure the #2 WR battle out as we go.

And you know what the great thing about our defense is? It should only get better as the season progresses. :)

As for Smith, I would love him as a return man, but he's not beating out any of our backs right now, in my opinion, and so he'd be only a returner here as well. I think Sutton is a better return man than Smith is a running back.

Can we win without a true #2? Sure, we have done if for several years. However, Smitty is not getting any younger and having a legit threat on the other side could make our offense nasty. You will be unable to double smitty, single cover the #2 and the TE...and stick 8 in the box.

Looks like the Bucs have a logjam. They won't drop Stroughter for sure, but we could get a shot at Spurlock or Clifton Smith.

Hopefully lots of teams are having this problem, cause we sure as poo aren't.

I would like to have Clifton Smith returning. Its just a good thing Dante Wesley isn't here I he does

Barring an injury, I think we go into the season with Smith, Jarrett, Edwards, LaFell and Wallace Wright (this year's Karl Hankton) at receiver.

At runningback, Williams, Stewart, Sutton, Goodson and Fiammetta (fullback).

Again, barring injury, if you're looking for a return option that's not on the team right now, you should probably look for a backup defensive back.

I still think there is a possibility we will find a true number two. We have some young guys and they are learning the system.

I thought Witherspoon was brought in for his return abilities. I wonder why we haven't heard much from him? At least he has the experience and won't botch it for us.

I'm beginning to wonder if he'll even make the squad.

I have also been wondering about CB Brian Witherspoon. He was a CFA from JAX ,supposenly brought in to return punts and kickoffs if Edwards couldn't.

In my honest opinion, he should be given a try and if that doesn't work,we may have to go outside for a returner, seems no one on the team is capable of doing the job. Just saying.

I think he will get some reps.I think they really want to develope AE to excel at something so they can carry him on the active roster. They want to use him in the wildcat but he needs to excel at something else as well

    • Ok, we ain't making the playoffs unless something insanely crazy happens and plus it's November, time to start planning for the draft this spring.  Pretty simple, list our positions of need, address in the draft (or left to FA) and round we should draft that need. Currently we have 8 selections, the actual slot in each round still to be determined by finishing order, but I can't see a huge swing one way or the other. (This as of Week 10) Needs: (no particular order) ILB, CB, DL, Edge, S, QB, IOL, OT Rd1: ILB/EDGE Rd2:OT Rd3:Edge/ILB (opposite of round 1) Rd4:S Rd5-a:CB Rd5-b:QB Rd6:IOL Rd7:DL
    • Isn’t XL the player Nicole Tepper told Canales to trade-up for during draft day?
    • Yeah it is along the lines of ‘fraud vitiates everything’, it just prevents an honest assessment.  You got guys with some acknowledged issues, really swimming upstream due to the quality of the QB.    I think back to game two this year when he got a lot of targets and was unable to do anything. When you look back nothing, or maybe one, was in a decent place for him to get.  I think it was week two. And ‘a lot’ maybe be overstating but there were a few.
