Charlie Campbell Pt. 2

Nick Scourton looks like a better player than Stewart. Watch a game and tell me which one looks like the better player. Stewart's hype is driven by physical measureables only. He is not that good of a football player. Could he learn with the right coaching? Possibly. But that risk is too high with pick #8.

Pick #20+ is more reasonable.

If you spent this long in college but haven't figured that out, you likely aren't going to or don't love the game.

This team sure loves disappointment. What could go wrong with a huge project and the DC who ran the worst D last year? Seems like a wonderful marriage.

Might as well take a CB because the one safety we have can't cover Ian Thomas.

Watching his highlights is just bizarre. Like if these are the "highlights"... damn. This dude sucks. LOL

Oh look, here he is again beating the one on one block just being faster and stronger than the opposing OL and getting a clear path to the QB and somehow not even coming close to getting the sack. Yay! Highlight!

You have to remember, most of these OLs he's simply running around in these college "highlights" aren't NFL players. They're worse than the worst guys on our roster.

1st rounder this year isn't exactly the time to swing for the fences on a "but what if" type guy.

Could he become a monster? Sure. But there's 5 or 6 other guys who help this team, are safer picks, and can also turn into monsters. Maybe the scouts think his tape is better than what his stats say, feel like I heard a podcast not long ago mention it. But at the end of the day, the tape and what he did in games matters more than size, athleticism numbers, etc.

This. If we were a playoff team sitting at #8 that felt pretty good about our overall roster and felt we had the luxury of swinging for the fences on a boom/bust player at an impact position, okay. That's obviously not us. And the thing is, most of those consistent playoff teams got to that position by NOT doing stupid poo like this. LOL

The first thing that jumps out to me watching this guy play is that his first step is sloooooow. Sure, when he can get to step two or three without contact you can see the speed but the first step is labored. Beating NFL OTs around the edge with speed is all about that first step. The second thing that jumps out is that I don't see a bit of technique. Where's a swim move? A spin? Hand fighting? I don't see any of it. I just see a big, fast, athlete who can occasionally make an impact by being one of the best athletes on the field. It's like watching a D1 football recruit on a HS basketball court. Like yeah, you can see that this guy is a helluva athlete but you can also see that he's not really a basketball player. All the impact he's making is just a byproduct of being the best athlete out there. That's what watching the Shemar Stewart college "highlights" looks like. I have no idea how people are watching this guy and seeing a 1st round prospect, forget top 10.

We should randomly just pick a small good school guy who had a lot of sacks. Better option than Stewart.

Tennessee Titans: Mike Green, DE, Marshall Marshall_logo.gif

The Titans take a replacement for Harold Landry.

Green has been a monster for the Thundering Herd this season, with a ton of big plays for the Marshall defense. In 2024, Green had 17 sacks with three forced fumbles, 81 tackles, and two passes batted. The 6-foot-4, 248-pounder is very fast and explosive off the edge. In 2023, Green had 43 tackles with 4.5 sacks and one forced fumble.

I think I only watched two of his games and I honestly didn't notice him. Having watched a couple of his "highlight" reels it's wild how many times he has one on one matchups and beats the blocker but then just runs around like a chicken with his head cut off. Like free path to the QB and doesn't even come close. He looks like an elite athlete who just has absolutely zero football instincts.

The counter argument could be that he was playing around 20-30lbs heavier than his ideal playing weight. I don’t know this to be true, but it’s possible he lost some agility/flexibility beefing up to play his role.

That's what they claim about Scourton. That he bulked up this year and it hurt him. Which could be true. He had 11 sacks last year. The thing with Stewart is that he's never produced so I do have my doubts about that narrative.

I get it. It’s no slam dunk. I think TMac would be for our team. Moving forward in 2026 with a core of 3rd year XL/Coker & 2nd year TMac for Bryce sounds nice.

I think Stewart is the better prospect than Mykel though. From what I see on film, Stewart’s first step is much better than his.

In all honesty, we needed a replacement for Burns when we drafted Burns. His best move was the Spider-man pose that everyone loved. And beyond that, he proved to be a modestly accomplished edge rusher, modestly.

And he couldn't play the run to save his life.

Sorry, had to throw that in. Loved the guy, but he just never hit the potential we hoped for.

Edit to add: And we changed from a 4-3 to a 3-4 to accommodate him.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
