Did Jake at least give you hope?

I understand your feelings. I, too, was a Jake fan ... until he began averaging 7 turnovers a game.

Face it, Jake was always a reckless slinger of the ball and only Wesley Walls's, Smith's and Moose's talent saved him. But after Jake's arm got hurt, he was done. Both the Big Cat and Foxxy gave him the chance to come back but he did not have the physical talent anymore.

Cleveland made a bad decision - my guess is that he will never be any good for any NFL team again ... sad but we have to face the truth.

As for Panthers, expect for Clausen to make some 'rookie' mistakes, but he is a savvy guy and will learn from them and, if we have patience, we will be glad we got him.

Hmmm..? Now what am I supposed to think about the rest of your post..:rolleye:

yea i think he said, "A TE with talent? Who needs THAT?" when he found out Walls was on the team

If I remember correctly, Walls stopped due to injury not due to being cut.

I always hoped he wouldn't turn the ball over.

In 2009 yes but back in the day, Jake was one of the best in the fourth quarter. You saw him come back enough to know that he could do it. Always gave you hope.

It was a shame he couldn't come back from surgery. Sometimes desire isn't enough.

Yes he did. A lot of fans suffer from short term memory loss, but Jake had some great runs while with the Panthers, in particular the Superbowl year. I couldn't ask for anything more out of a QB. Despite us relying on the running game to get there, when Brady started slinging it and it turned into a shootout, Delhomme stepped up and responded. I can still remember the long balls flying through the air like it was yesterday. I couldn't believe my eyes that Jake was playing like that. And in the end we lost by 3 points to a FG by Vinatieri, the same way the Patriots won their previous Superbowl.

That wasn't the only time either. I can't remember if it was the same year or in a season after that, but Delhomme had amassed one of the best records for 4th Quarter come back wins as well as one of the best post season records. He played his ass off and become an elite QB during the post season with his last playoff game being more like the exception than the rule.

So again, to answer your question, if we were down and needed to come back from behind to win in the 4th quarter, as long as Delhomme was behind center I always had hope and a lot of times he came through. And if we did make it to the playoffs, I always felt confident in Delhomme.

At least until midway through 2008, I had the belief that if bad Jake didn't show up on game day, we always had a chance to win the game. If we were down to the last drive of the game with a chance to win and Jake was under center, I felt good about our chances. That's all in the past, though.

Unfortunately, Moore hadn't been in those type of situations in the games he played. He either played caretaker and let the running game take over or we simply blew the opponent out. Worse off, most of the games he did play only mattered in terms of draft position, so the pressure was much less than normal. The two big questions I had about Moore coming into this season was "How will he play in games that DO matter?" and "Can he handle adversity, especially after he has a bad game?". There is no reason to call him a failure just yet but he can't be coddled like what we did to Carr.

I'm not sure about Clausen but my main concern with him is that we either ruin him by throwing him out on the field too early or he becomes another Kerry Collins. I will say that I feel that Clausen is more likely to be like Jake than Moore (in the intangibles, at least).

I think Walls was cut and was quite angry about it. I thought he went with Denver for a year but didn't play much there so maybe he had lingering injuries.

I was much more emotionally invested when Jake was with us. Exciting it definitely was. I would wake up game day morning feeling like I knew how the team would play, what chance we had to win that day. There's none of that now but we haven't won yet either.
