we did last year as well.

did we stay that way? by the end of the season we were among the best in the league at takeaways. it jsut took a few weeks for the defense to get into their groove but they finally did. i have a lot of confidence in the defenses ability to get back up there. they have the speed and the aggression. they have had their hands on quite a few balls coming their way as well. it will get better.

it also took us moving from jake to matt to stop the bleeding. this time it's clausen's turn and i think he'll do a better job of it. remember, moore's first effort last year when he stepped in for mccown in that first game he threw an INT and no TDs. moore's first start, no TDs and 1 INT. it wasn't until his 2nd start that he threw a TD and from then on threw no more INTs....just TDs. not a lot of TDs, but enough.

we could very well see the same type turnaround with clausen in there. it could be an even bigger turnaround considering what jimmy brings to the table, who knows? i doubt calusen goes INT free the remainder of the season but once he hits his groove i doubt you will see many.

I agree on the Clausen angle, but as for the D, I think last year we just had to get used to the Meeks scheme. We already know it now, there's no groove to get into. We've had the INT chances and have blown them. It's just poor execution. We're already in the groove. Now...sacking the other team's QB, forcing him to fumble or throw poor passes is another story. I don't think we can improve that unless Hardy plays a lot more.

If you mean the number of interceptions our secondary has, I think we are second or third. Amazing we have that many int's, yet we have still been thrashed in every game.

Our defense is ranked in the top 15 in both the run and pass. Amazing considering how long they are on the field due to our inept offense.

James Anderson is 5th in the league in tackles. Makes one wonder if T. Davis is wasting his time trying to get back so soon.

Problem is that in the one stat that matters which is points surrendered we are 23rd at 23.7 points a game.

There are other teams out there on the field as long as we are who give up more yards a game who are giving up 8 points less than we are. Once teams get in the redzone, we give up points.

We are also 4th in the number of 3rd down attempted by the opposing team. They are only converting 1/3 of them but we gave up 4 out of 4 fourth down plays and are 15th in 1st down surrendered.

The offense has done us no favors but we are a far cry from last year's team who was top 5 in pass defense at this juncture. Seems a year into this defense we should be better not worse.

The offense will come. Remember when we were all like, "what would 2009 have looked like if we stared Moore earlier?" well we're doing just that with Jimmy and things will get better.

I have to have this hope, it keeps me up on Saturday nights and prompts me to spend 30 bucks on beer every Sunday watching the panthers play at some sports bar...

Yelling at the tv even when the game is out of reach.

I truly believe we're heading in the right direction.

    • I am trying to remember when I EVER said reach for need. My thing if someone falls you jump, if you can trade back a few slots and get help at the right value and pick up some ammo to move up from 51 which I think is outside the money zone, then you do that.   Take a WR later. Plenty of capable WRs have come from the 3rd round. Though this year I would go for C there if there was a reasonable choice. Take a TE if you must. I see more reason to take WR than TE. I think you give guys drafted two years ago and last year a chance to develop before cancelling them.    I think it is kind of unrealistic to throw everything all in on offense in hopes of going deep in the playoffs after an 8-10 year, even if it did have some nice bright spots in it.    And outside of this argument but relevant to it, I am bothered by Canales and Morgan and their apparent posture that we have arrived and are now in the big boy club. I don’t know where that comes from. They are out there talking like they are winners at 8-10. Backing into the playoffs in a real convoluted tie breaker scenario. They had some good games, yes. But the big feather n the cap, the LA Rams matchups, did you see what the Rams did? They didn’t fire the coaches but they fired their defensive backs. Bryce beat them yes, and it was pretty, but it was kind of like the Bucs and Mike Evans picking on our decimated secondary in 2022. Someone (Wilks) went down for allowing that to happen and they went down in LA too.  Wr aren’t as good as a whole lot of homers think we are. Shore up the trenches.    I think too many fans buy into it because they are so starved for anything that looks like a winner.
    • How exactly does one win OROY "by default"? Wouldn't winning the award mean that of the two, McMillon stayed strong the entire year while the other guy didn't and fizzled out? That's like saying Secretariat only won by default because the other horse stopped moving midway through the race. Absolutely zero logic in that statement, which makes me very glad that I've never really paid much attention to Walterfoozball.
    • I agree, teams in the past have fired the HC in order to retain a coach on staff...hell it happened to Mcderp this year, rams in the past and Im missing another.  The fall off for the Panthers team defense was huge once Mcderp leftd and Ron could not fix it even when he named himself DC.
