Will Steve Smith have a threat opposite him next year?

The general consensus seems to be that it's a 99.99% chance that Fox is gone next year. So, a new coach, picking new pieces, putting his team together would have to address this issue right?

Hurney is still gonna be the GM so that means that we have a little bit of predictability in what might happen. JR will also still be the team owner. We should have a large amount of cap and Im just not buying that he's going cheap next year. I dont think he'll tell Hurney to buy the farm either but just that he would have to loosen the leash a little if he wants to continue to have fans.

So if not somebody already on the roster, who should it be?. . taking in to account that they will be realistically available.

I'm in the minority here but I happen to think we are just fine at the receiver position.

We have two young guys that show a ton of potential and usually for WR the 2 or 3 year is their break out years!

Then we have Guy on the PS which I believe is an excellent WR and if he didn't stay hurt in OTA and Training Camp would be on the active roster.

We're not fine this year, but we will be - both LaFell and Gettis are ahead of schedule.

That catch by LaFell in the Bengals game was jaw-dropping. I don't care if it was in "garbage time" that was an amazing catch (and throw by Clausen).

I think LaFell will be the guy.

I think LaFell could easily turn into a WR who amazes you with some nice/tough grabs.....but can't be counted on for some of the easiest ones.

I don't think you are asking the right question.... I honestly believe the Panthers have found a solid 2-3 combination in Lafell and Gettis. The real question is who is eventually going to replace Smith as the number one??

As much as I like those two I doubt that either one could become legitimate number ones (unless Gettis just explodes, he has more potential in my opinion) although maybe they could combine to become a great dual threat. If we do go receiver next year in free agency or the draft I suspect we will be looking for a home run..ala AJ Green

Also don't discount Armanti yet. No I am not an App State homer, but obviously he has potential. Hopefully Gettis, Lafell, and Edwards will become a three pronged receiver attack that will essentially be like having Smitty...hopefully.

Also I really think Barnidge and or Rosario will develop into a great receiving tight end for us. I know they haven't shown much in the past few games, but give them time and good things will happen.

Dont rule out Gettis. While LaFell is more NFL ready right now. Gettis has more speed and better hands. I think Marty might have hit some gold this season. ;)

    • And that makes you right.
    • Mel Kiper said he would retire if Jimmy Clausen wasn't a successful NFL starter too. Just because the experts make a claim doesnt mean it's true either.  Bryce may be a serviceable QB for someone. Serviceable QBs don't bring you a perennial winner or lead you to the playoffs over and over. Serviceable QBs also dont get 50m plus per year deals which is what a Bryce extension would look like.  The stats show he hasn't been even a serviceable QB in the 3 years he's been here. The eye test shows he hasn't put together 2 franchise QB salary games back to back in 3 years.  Complain all you want about people being negative, but people pointing out that Bryce is held to a different standard than anyone else on the team isn't complaining. It's stating the obvious.
    • We have big bodied WRs and 3 TEs who all have potential and each bring something different to the table. I never saw the need to go out there and try and find a new starting TE.  While it's nice to have a guy like McBride, Bowers, etc, I think a team's better use of the cap is by having TEs on rookie contracts or cheap vets, not having to pay elite TE money.
