Our Defense Is Good

The defense has been a mixed bag. With the exception of the Giants game, they have kept the opponents score down to a level where a decent offense has a shot at winning. But they are also giving up quite a few yards. A few more three and outs and they will not have to spend so much time on the field.

well, generally when they have generated a turnover or forced a 3 and out....the offense either turns it right back over or goes 3 and out.

Our defense will NOT stay good if they are on the field like that game in and game out. They will wear down, and injury becomes more likely. I remember our defense wasn't that bad during the 1-15 season, but they just flat wore out. Our offense has to staep up. We can win close games, but the '3 and outs' are the key. If we can cut down on them, our defense might be in position to be a game winner. We are getting our fair share of turnovers, some of them are likely to break for a score at some time.

lots of missed INT opportunities. lack of stopping 3rd down conversions...the fact that they were on the field for 82 plays and couldn't get themselves off the field...these are all problems.

i do like that they were able to contain the points but they aren't dominating. the offense needs to help them out for sure by being able to stay on the field but the defense needs to be doing better at getting themselves off the field as well.

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
