Clausen Draft Inflated?

Hate to even post this since it will bring out the Moore knob slobbers, but here it is. The sports agent that had the article on SI yesterday says he "thinks" Kiper inflated Clausen's prospects. If you haven't read the article on SI, it's a really good read. He claims Claurette was his best draft guy because he never should have even been drafted but got someone to take him in the 3rd round.

In the SI article, written by George Dohrmann, Luchs insinuates Wichard used his friendship with ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper to get Kiper to inflate the ratings of his clients – a charge that Kiper has denied.

Before this year’s draft, Kiper rated Clausen, a Wichard client, as the best quarterback available and fourth-best player overall. Meanwhile, Scouts, Inc.’s Todd McShay (another ESPN draftnik) ranked Clausen as the draft’s 38th best player, 35 spots below Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford.

On Patrick’s show, Luchs said he believes Kiper inflated Clausen’s ranking.

I still think Clausen was somewhere in between where Kiper and McShay rated him. Kiper might have inflated his stock...but he has a reputation to maintain as an analyst. With McShay coming fast he has to try to be more accurate than he was before. If he isn't accurate AT ALL and all he does is inflate stocks then he'll be out of a job.

I don't see how any of this matters since Clausen went mid/late second round.

If he had gone high first round this would be a story.

McShay had Jake Locker number 1 in his draft last year so either they are both on the tip or they are both idiots. I'm assuming the latter.

well, we do have a scouting department don't we? Or did we just watch Mel Kiper Clips instead?

hahahahahahahaahaha......Im getting the feeling Fox has been listnening to Mel when it comes to OFF players (mainly wideouts) for A FEW YEARS and scouting the DEF because thats the only picks that really pan out. First round talent is of course exempt

Let me look at where colbert, shelton,DJ,rhyne R,lafell are rated according to super slick back.

Was rated highly cause he has the skills to be a good QB and the system he played in college. Imo I still think the sole reason he dropped was due to many questioning his attitude and maturity after that ESPN Gruden segment (which wasn't as bad as many said). Many scouts labeled him NFL ready because of the damn good offensive NFL scheme he came from at ND and playing under Coach weiss.

When he's struggling as a rookie they try to throw out the above and fail to realize he's in a Panthers offense that is predictable and outdated. Only thing he has similar here in Carolina to ND is a subpar Oline.

I think he was rated just about right a top ten prospect just had some question marks if he was mature enough imo.

At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
