Carolina Panthers in a spread offense

This is just a crazy fantasy but....

This is a new league and carolina is behind the times. If we switch to a spread offense we could trade one of our backs for picks and rebuild our offense.

I say we dump Moore, keep Pike as third option, Clausen could develop into a solid pocket passer and be our number two and we draft Tyrod Taylor from VT to be our double threat number one.

As much as it pains me, trade D-Will simply because he has the most value in my opinion. Maybe get a second and one or two other picks (maybe to the Pats and get Woodhead too). Keep Stew and Goodson; stew to pound it and mike as a scat/slot.

I have no opinion on our wideouts. cant tell what we have with our recent shoddy play. I can say I'm content with our TE's.

This definitely would expand our fan base and revenue.

Opinions?

look out you have forum trolls incoming dude. NO CONVERSATION WHATSOEVER anymore in the forums according to them.

First you're going to see:

Then you're going to get:

"This is so stupid, can't someone come up with something better to talk about."

And then finally:

This will be from the first 10 posters or so, don't worry though, they are just making their forum post count whoring rounds so that they can get their 200 post in this week since they have nothing better to do with their lives, its nothing personal, you can easily tell who is trolling from their post count. I have 700 in 24 months, that means i post once a day on average, soon you will be getting trolled by trolls with 20,000 post in 24 months... yea not even going to do the math there.

good job screwing up a thread. any fail that happens is because of this derailment.

i'm not of the opinion that switching to a spread is a bad thing. pats have won a couple superbowls because of it.

i don't like the idea of making the team weaker by trading one of it's sure strengths away. trading williams is a bad idea, imo. keep willliams and stewart and build around that strength. doesn't make sense to me to do anything but build around your long term strengths.

not sure how your plan is going to "expand our fanbase and revenue".

Just add more excitement and sell more product. How many jerseys did vick sale when he was with the falcons? How much product did he move? just sayin.

I love d-will as much as anyone else but with a double threat qb we really dont need two stellar rbs. sacrifice one so we can get more picks and bolster the d line or pick more wrs

The two issues I have with the idea both have to do with personnel. First, in a true spread O you better have a pretty damn good O-line. 5 guys with good footwork who can pass protect. In my opinion, this is the biggest weakness of the Panther O-line right now. Second, I have to agree with rayzor- on a team with very few strengths I'm very hesitant to give up one of those very few in Williams.

What i'm thinkin is, and i could be wrong, if we have a qb that can make things happen with his feet, we can call alot more pass plays and if things break down turn it into a run with the qb, much like vick or freeman. still got stew to pound it and utilize goodson more to his skill set like woodhead or welker. we could trade stew, he has been injury prone and d-will would be better catchin balls in the back field, but i think we can get higher picks with d-will and find those wr's or o-linemen we need. i do think gettis is going to be a good number two. who knows what armanti will turn into.

We don't need a Tyrod Taylor to run the spread. Honestly if that is what the coaches wanted, they already have a quarterback who can spread the ball running or passing. He also happens to be playing at wide receiver for us as well. Plus we have Pike as well. Seems to me that all of this discussion is better served when we know who the new HC coach and OC are going to be. I wouldn't be entertaining trades or shakeups on staff until I knew what we needed to run the new offense.

the patriot's won 3 superbowl's running the same type of offense we have now. they didn't rely on the run game the way we do. the spread made them exciting & won alot of games(but no rings). that's why belichik is slowly going to a more balanced attack he used in the past.
