So maybe they were right.

It could be argued that Gettis isn't just the product of one game IMO. This week was a breakout game, certainly, but he's been making tough catches all season. I don't think he played Week 1, but since, he has made some great catches and gotten better each week IMO. That's not one week. And if he had any consistency at QB and Smitty lined up across from him each of those weeks he'd certainly have even better stats.

So why don't we get off this 'one week' argument, it could apply to a lot of other areas, but I don't think it works on Gettis. The guy is good.

Given the well documented struggles of rookie WR's, I don't know how you can go into a season with a WR squad comprised mostly of rookies and feel good about your chances?

I think LaFell and Gettis will both develop into good WR's, but relying on rookies is a big part of what got us into the 0-5 hole we dug for ourselves.

I would say depending on a rookie QB is more of why we were in a 0-5 hole. Fox yanked Moore too quickly, I mean you only give Matt 2 games before he is benched? I think Fox is doing whatever he thinks the fans want instead of what he needs to as a coach, and that is because this is his last year. He takes Matt out after 2 games for a rookie QB, and on Sunday instead of taking the FG to make it 20-16 he goes for it on 4th down with over 5 minutes to go and we don't get it.

This was the last sentence of the post.

Oh, I gotcha. And you're right that this could be the level of play that Hurney and JR expected out of these guys all along -- the thought crossed my mind many times Sunday that "maybe they were right all along."

Let's give them a few more games and see if they can continue to play at this level.

SF has a talented roster, but just can't seem to put it together like us. I believe the coaching, playing calling has alot to do with that. But I don't see them as one of the worst teams, just worst records.

I don't think Singletary is the problem. He got those guys playing good football towards the end of last season, they just can't keep it together for a full 60 minutes.

You said it before I could...

SF is garbage. We'll be lucky to be 4-12 this year and after a loss to the Seahawks, those that were hating on Fox/Hurney earlier will start to do it again.

please, with average QB play this Panther team would be sporting a much better record. The team isn't that bad.....Fox moving to Clausen put this team in the HUGE hole. Carolina isn't the Clausen Panthers. They are who we thought they were heading into this season......they just had a bump in the road that Fox refused to allow them to work through to start the year.

Chicago, Cincy, and NO......those games will haunt us as fans when we look back at the end.

We will never know what would have happen CRA, who knows if Moore needed to get benched to get him to play better. U obviously don't and neither do any of us.

GET HURNEYS COCK OUT OF YOUR MOUTH !!!!!!!

Exactly! Couldn't have said it better myself (but not really) Now, with that out of the way...

The FO thought Jarrett would turn into something (haha), and that one of our rookies would step up I think. They should have known that we needed another vet alongside the guys though. They also assumed our running game would be as strong as it was last year, and that our passing game would be allowed to come along a bit more slowly since we still had Steve Smith and Matt Moore who showed some nice chemistry last year.

Nobody knows how things woulda gone if we'd done this or that differently. I'm just glad we got a win.

Exactly. At the time Clausen had shown some decent play in preseason and Moore was playing poor and had a concussion just a week earlier. It was worth a gamble at the time. It is easy to look back after Moore's game and do the what if game but as you say, who knows if he would have played better in game 3 or he needed this time to come around.

    • As long as we have DB, odd man fronts are the way to go for us. We want to line DB up between the guard and tackle (4i-tech) because of how quick he is off the snap and his punch on the guard off the snap. If anyone is wondering why he pretty much has to be doubled (or combo blocked) just about every snap, its because he is lined up in that spot in our odd man front. If we change to an even front, it becomes a lot harder to have DB play the 4i-tech.  Not sure if I would say Evero likes smaller NTs - I wouldn't call Bobby Brown a small NT by any sense. I think we run a 1-tech NT, so they are usually getting double teamed (or combo blocked) by concept alone. I actually think Bobby Brown did a pretty good job of eating blocks and being positionally sound on most runs at him (not his fault we were rocking ass LBs last year + Wharton being god awful). The bigger problem came on the toss plays/outside runs where DB wasn't able to blow it up in the backfield (i.e., the Bills game). Lloyd should help with the run D and getting a rangy LB in the draft will definitely help. There are also some good 1-tech DTs (and 0-techs) that can be instant day 1 starters for us in the draft.
