3 busts in 2 years of the draft that will hurt a while

The biggest thing that is bugging me right now is the moves we've made in the draft these past 2 years, 2 picks I considered straight up bone head 1 has a potential to hurt, but the first two look to be devistating.

1, traded this years first for Everett Brown in the 2nd, straight up bust this is by far our worst pick in the fox and hurney era, with that said this is no knock on brown he's done everything we've asked, problem is he's just not big enough for DE in a 4-3 scheme.

2, Edwards this one keeps getting worse with the worse the panthers play, you think Edwards is worth the 34th pick in the 2011 draft because right now that looks to be where we will be picking. Bust with insult to injury.

3, this one remains to be seen but Jimmy Clausen can't even handle a snap right now, seriously WTF? If he can't handle a snap Edwards is looking like a better option at QB then him.

And lastly I typed this from a iPod in the middle of nowhere in Australia so excuse the bad grammar and what not.

Seriously?

Two rookies and a 2nd year guy are what is going to hurt us for a while? How about some people get their head out their ass and realise most young players take a year or two to actually 'get it'. The rookies who come in and contribute straight away are the rare commodity. Some people are just really stupid.

and then you have to couple that with the fact that this franchise just will not sign one good free agent and that leaves the draft as your only source of talent, which is not a good thing considering our drafting capability after the first round, which is worth just about poo

I dunno know, Jeff Otah and J-Stew make up for it, plus you have some people still proving there self (Godfrey, Capn, Hayden, Goodson, and Martin) so i don't think 3 busts (i don't think they are busts (yet), i just think there young and waiting for there opportunity), but lets say they turn out to be busts, I don't think it would hurt us to much due to the fact that we also drafted some good players. Anyways, every team is going to have busts.

Funny you should mention Stewart because he too was not worth what we gave up for him IMO. Otah as well if he keeps this injury business up.

As far as Capt, Hayden, and Godfrey they are sketchy at best (Martin I do like however). Goodson its too early to tell. Its not like we have the Colts FO there good not great.

I can semi understand the E.Brown pick. It was a gross overreaction to the Peppers situation. Still sucks and he should be off the team next year...he's barely back-up quality at this point.

AE...I don't think I will ever like this pick

Unless AE turns into Wes Welker or the like and thus justifies what is more or less the late first round pick that was probably blown on him (no way to know yet of course), he's a complete bust.

I'm an App State fan and all but Edwards is project material at just about every position he projects to in the NFL. That was my position on draft day and I was expecting him to go in the fifth round or later.

Can't put Clausen on that list yet...he was thrown in to play way too early. Unless drafted highly in the first round, QB's haven't had any recent success as a rookie.

Brown...maybe he should move to LB.

Edwards...I don't think we should have picked him where we did or gave up what we did to get him. It was solely to sell tickets to App fans as far as I'm concerned.

Noone liked Martin till he got a couple of picks then suddenly he was a "ball hawk". Give the picks time.

    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
    • Good response. In reference to your second paragraph, many Huddlers are just haters when it comes to certain people.
