Harbaugh / Luck Question #2

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

Let him know he's the starter from the get-go and go from there. I would say get a vet QB, but theres not many that will be available. Atleast, a halfway decent one. A perfect guy would be Chris Redmond from the Falcons. It's too bad they got him locked up next season. Anyways, I'm the bandwagon that says start Luck right away.

You got it right on that last sentence.. it's what everyone should be doing anyhow. there is no way in hell any of us have a clue what coach is coming in..

to fry your brain over it is crazy.. ;)

My sentiments exactly. We won't have any real clue on the direction the team will be taking until the end of the season when we will at the least know our draft position.

Orton cause he's the best of the bunch, and since this is just pure speculation anyways, why not shoot for the moon? ;)

I can honestly see Croyle, Gradkowski, or another backup come here next year to compete for the starting spot. With Fox gone, it most likely will finally be an open competition for the #1 spot.

Dude.... If we're shooting for the moon here then fug orton. I want Peyton Manning. Then we can trade away the number one pick to go down 3-4 spots and get either Green or Peterson lol. Now hows that for shooting the moon? :D

He's a Clausen fanboy, that's how.

I love how people keep saying "Sign a good vet" like they are just growing on trees. Seriously, what good vet is going to come here and want to be a backup. Why would Orton, who might set the single season record for yards, sign the next year as a backup? You guys are out of your friggin minds.

It's gonna be Clausen, Moore, Rookie next year, get used to it.

I'm saying. There are ZERO vet QBs that I would realistically want signed here long term. Id take any of the three I mentioned but Im not stupid. I know Manning Vick and Orton wont be playing in Carolina.

Interesting point you touched on there tho. I wouldn't rule out Moore coming back. Its not like hes going to demand a boat load of money and he is a serviceable backup who could come in and win a few games as hes done in the past. That and we know what he can and can't do. Honestly, I would take him over almost every other QB on the list. I just dont know that he has enough knowledge to teach Luck should we get him.

Lets say hypothetically Moore is resigned and we draft Luck. Do you trade Clausen to one of the West Coast teams in need of a QB and bring in a vet? Do you keep all three? That is the only problem I have with that theory. Still, should prove an interesting final 5 weeks.

Let's say the dream comes true and we get both.

Do you start Luck in his rookie season or sit him behind a vet for a year?

He will most certainly need time to transition to the speed of the pros (they all do) but with that said, who knows Harbaugh's offense better than Luck?

So...start him or sit him? And what's your rationale?

I don't think Peyton would sign here if he had to sit on the bench :D

I'd start Luck because assuming Otah comes back healthy, we have our kickass oline back. Yes, I think Otah makes that much difference, as I think Gross and Kalil do as well. If we have a good oline again then Luck won't get shell shocked and he'll have every opportunity to prosper. I don't expect Bradford-esque early development, but if he develops like a Sanchez or a Ryan I'll be ecstatic.

Answering the question directly. Yes he should start immediately.

His supporting cast is only going to get better next year than what it currently is now.

If luck is as good as most think he is, and we draft him # 1 overall then it would be a travesty not to start him. If we dont start him it should only be for bad reasons such as he got beat out by another qb in training camp.

Maybe he thinks Orton is better than Peyton?

:out: .......false.......

Maybe because he's the best of the bunch that will be FAs next season?? Payton isn't available... Orton is, and I was stating that we'd be lucky to sign him, but I doubt it. Hence the "shoot for the moon" comment.

Way to go off on a tangent to try and make me look crazy, but I'm not the one who brought up Payton Manning, you two are. You asked a question, I answered it. Don't like it? Fine, but don't make it out that I think anyone in this league (collectively over their career and is currently active) is better than Payton. Just not happening...
