Let's Accept Some Basic Truths

You guys really don't know much about cam newton.

Yep, especially when you see them comparing him to Jamarcus or Vince. Newton probably resembles Roethlisberger more than anybody in the NFL. Hell, a good comparison would've also been Culpepper if your going to keep throwing out black QB's lol. I dont see where the attitude worries come from. From all his interviews, he seems like a very humble young man. Always giving praise to God in his interviews, you would think he'd fit right in here with this conservative franchise haha. Oh, and Cam could never be Jamarcus...he's far too humble to pull a Russel.

I'm in favor of Luck, but Newton would fit well in our offense. Especially, since we're big on the run. I wouldnt be mad if we drafted him

I thought Thomas Davis' thoughts on Cam Newton were pretty interesting.

He said that what sets Cam apart now is that he runs over defenders all the time. he also said that won't happen in the NFL and that he would draft Luck or even Mallet before he drafted Newton.

I have a bad feeling luck is going to stay in school, with the lockout impending and all, not to mention if he stays its almost inevitable that he will be the number 1 pick next year

Ask Jake Locker about that....he is the inevitable #1 pick for this year. That is until he actually played this season.

Luck has NOTHING to gain by staying....and a ton to lose by staying. Poor performance next year....rookie payscale.....injury.

I doubt he will be any better than VY. The best part of his game is his speed and ability to run over defenders which will not happen at the next level. Its not like he's Vick fast, or even close. Secondly, from what I've seen and heard, his arm is not that great in power or accuracy. If we dont get Luck or Mallet we need to get D line, Aj Green, or a corner/safety

he'll walk away with a degree from stanford and possibly avoid being drafted by a team he doesn't want to play for.

I think as far as teams typically picking #1 goes we're a pretty attractive choice. I'd certainly rather play for this team coming out of college than the Raiders/Bills/Lions.

Not to mention if all goes well this is probably the last draft without a rookie cap. You don't need a Stanford education to know this is the year to enter the draft.

if all goes well, this is the first year with a cap.

agree about us being the best team though teh p1ckles could pull a couple out (i.e. arizona and 2nd atlanta game.)

without getting position specific coming out of college.....Detriot looks to be a team on the rise.

Agreed, I think Detroit is a couple players and a healthy QB away from being a solid 9-7 maybe 10-6 team next year.

Perhaps, but knowing how to win in the NFL is paramount. The Texans and Bengals are a prime example. Loaded with talent but don't know how to win. At least the Panthers know they have won and been successful in the very near past. Plus we have strong management regardless of what people are saying about this year alone.

It will not take long for us to get back on top. If you look at our 15 year history in the NFL, there has only been a couple years that we have not been competitive. That is pretty strong for a young franchise. As I have said many times, if George Shinn was running this organization I would be concerned, but JR is as solid as they come.

Except to sit around for a year doing nothing while the next "guarantee'd great QB" rises to the top of the draft board.

I agree with most of the above. I think we primarily need a change in coaching staff (almost top to bottom) that brings in a completely different philosophy. But moreover, we need to finally draft a top 5 QB. The Panthers have never done it before and it needs to be done. Past high drafted QB's have shown a lot of promise. Just look at the previous three years of 1st round QB's drafted:

Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Matthew Stafford, Mark Sanchez, Josh Freeman, Sam Bradford, The Golden Calf of Bristol.

Nixing The Golden Calf of Bristol (and Stafford, but only due to his injuries), I'd be fine with any of those above choices for the future and I think a majority of fans would be as well. It's time for the Panthers to draft a QB the highest they ever have before.
