Cheating

Lemme throw a hypothetical out there to ya.

We know Gregg Williams is a POS who will coach his guys to play dirty and congratulate them for it when it's over. So let's say we're playing the Saints and we see a couple of pretty blatant cheap shots on our QB, RB, WR, whoever.

Our new coach - whomever he may be - is angered by this. In response, he coaches his defensive guys to take a late shot or two on Brees, Colston, Bush et al. He also tells the Big Uglies to feel free to get a shot or two in on the defense. He's willing to take the penalty flags to teach these bastards a lesson.

Do you approve?

Do you approve?

I do and I don't. It isn't a cut and dried sort of thing for me. From an unemotional standpoint like I have now I can comfortably say I don't approve at all for either team. But in the heat of the moment in a situation like you described I'm going to want blood and not be the least bit upset about a late hit that smears a guy all over the field... provided he isn't SERIOUSLY injured. I don't ever want to see that.

"Cheating" is ok sometimes, depending on how you do it. There's blatant cheating, then there's the little things. Like in NASCAR, those who win championships cheat (they just havent' been caught yet). They just make ever so small changes here and there. I don't have a problem w/ little things in baseball that are considered cheating either, such as rubbing up a ball and unknown substances on the brim of a pitcher's cap. Those things are to be expected.

Funny. I don't think that the Patriots have to give back their Superbowl trophies because they supposedly cheated by filming other teams practices including the one over the Panthers. At the end of the day the record just reflects the wins and losses no matter how they were earned.

Problem is that many times cheaters do prosper. At least in the short term.

Anyone who knows a somewhat small amount about football will always attribute the Patriots cheating during their mini-dynasty. When I hear year they won a lot but they cheated, I pretty much disregard any mention of winning, obviously not many people cheat and then lose. If you believe in cheating to win, then the game is completely pointless, has no purpose or meaning.

As long as its done in a way that doesn't hurt our chances of winning, ie at a critical point in the game. So yes, I do approve.

there are levels of cheating that are acceptable IMO. for example, speeding is not really frowned upon but is technically against the law. Accept it or not a large part of what makes a franchise strong these days is how to cheat without getting caught. There is an art to it an those that are better at it are by and large more successful.

I do not think the Alosi thing is that big of a deal for example. After all the gunner is advancing his position by going out of bounds. The gunner is the one who took the play off the field. Edging the knee out was a bit out of line but has happened plenty/. Steve Tasker said as much this week and I simply don't believe that only one coach in the league has ever organized this type of wall.

Cheat if you can. There is a level that is accepted amongst the players and coaches. That is why there are referees. The referees true job, the spirit of their existence is rooted in advantage and disadvantage. Yes there are rules and guidelines that exist in order to give the referee teeth when he bites, but I do not believe they were ever created to be called in EVERY instance that they occur.

referees are to decide when the cheating tips the table too much in favor of one side or another and then make a call. But they cannot, will not, and in my opinion never intend to call everything. It's just not practical, nor does it help the game in the slightest to go that route.

Yes honor and code and pride and honesty are important. But those things are only important amongst the fraternity of the players and possibly staff. They are not important to the fans as the fans have no real clue what goes on or what the relationships are at all like. To judge them from what you happen to pick up on our DVR or what some media outlet chooses to sensationalize is likely inconclusive and arguably irresponsible.

There are some examples of players being outright "cheap" however and that is what I refer to as cheating or more aptly put "being a low down dirty bastard"

Cheap shot Scott Fujita comes to mind along with Albert Haynesworth and our own Tyler Brayton when thinking of cheap stuff that has happened.

Hell no. Have more class than your opponents in a situation like that.

Penetration by any depth is still considered......you fill in the rest. I don't believe in a little cheating is okay whether you are caught or not. To each his own, I guess.

If the Panthers didn't have integrity as an organization, I would not support them. I am glad that the Panthers and Hurricanes are two teams the fight the good fight, and don't bring in dumbass players just to win a few extra games. I'll support integrity through the good and the bad. Lose that, however, and I don't care how many wins you get. They aren't really your wins.
