Cowher eyes three teams and none are from Charlotte

As Bill Cowher nears the fourth anniversary of his resignation from the Steelers, Chris Mortensen of ESPN has linked Cowher to a trio of teams.

Cowher’s wish list, per Mort, consists of the Dolphins, Texans, and Giants.

Former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis previously linked Cowher to the Giants job, and since Bettis knew that Cowher would call it quits after the 2006 season before the 2006 season even started, we’ve deferred to the Bus in this regard. The problem, of course, is that the Giants remain solidly in contention for a playoff berth, which would most likely ensure Tom Coughlin’s return for 2011.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has been pushing the Cowher-to-Houston notion for a while. It all depends on whether coach Gary Kubiak gets fired. Earlier this week, owner Bob McNair didn’t sound like a guy who was thinking about making a change.

The Dolphins could be the most intriguing possibility. With Bill Parcells gone, owner Stephen Ross could clean out coach Tony Sparano and G.M. Jeff Ireland and hand the keys to Cowher, whose first order of business would be to try to lure Kevin Colbert and/or Omar Khan from the Pittsburhg front office.

I say GOOD

I say, Russ Grimm is not enough for me to renew my PSLs, not nearly enough, not even close. I suspect many other PSL holders feel the same way.

If JR wants people back in the stadium, Russ Grimm isn't going to do it.

Cowher is smart enough to bring in great assistants, one of which could replace him when he gets sick of it again.

As much as I want it, I doubt it will happen as long as Hurney is in the picture. He is just as responsible for the 3 winning seasons in 10 years as Fox is, not that anything ever gets really leveled at him in the media. Fox and the QB are more visible and easier targets.

The Chin comes with total control... And although I feel we need a change from top to bottom, I doubt Hurney is out of a job.

The funny thing is we still haven't heard of him signingan extension from when his contract was up...maybe he's been like Stephen Root's character in office space this whole year...

Like Jarrett. They found out they cut him after his first season but no one told him so he just kept getting paid :D

Grand prize winner! I think Jerry Richardson is acutely aware that he's going to have to make a splash with a coach signing to get the fans back in the building.

He cannot afford to wait and see what happens with the CBA/lockout, the free agency period, the draft, etc.

He cannot afford to sit back and let this season fester like an open wound on the fans. He needs to act, act soon and act decisively with a big-name hire. Otherwise we're likely to see a large number of PSLs become available on the open market.

Don't blame Cowher a bit. If he decides to go back into coaching, I seriously doubt he wants to be involved in a rebuilding situation. The Giants and Texans are both in good shape to be immediately competitive with established QB's.

As far as him coming here, I wouldn't be very enthused about him. He got lucky once picking Ben R, no guarantee it would happen here.

guessing is guessing, I'll wait until an announcement is made.

Of course, this is just more speculation.

I seriously doubt NY would fire GM Jerry Reese so Cowher could have his job and be the HC as well. Not something the old guard like John K Mara would be prone to do me thinks.

The Texans GM Rick Smith has a contract thru 2012.

The Dolphins might be the spot both GM and HC could be had.

This all of course assuming you're of the belief Cowher will demand total power.

    • The fact people still defend Davis is so confusing to me. He got lucky and went to the Championship once where his inept coaching lost us the game.  Since then he became the first coach to fall from first to unranked then not even make the tournament.  We were arguably the  worst 1st seed in our section and lost in the sweet 16.  We have never returned to the final four since the Natty loss.  We got a pity NCAA Tournament nod then got humiliated in the first round of the tournament.  Davis seems to be a decent recruiter but he is a terrible game time coach.  Unless he gets a super team that will carry his ass we will never return to the Natty as long as he is the coach.
    • He has definitely been an OT I'm curious about. Could be a guy that falls to the early part of the second round if we somehow trade down
    • return quickly? dude is never playing another snap in the NFL again.
