Something that bothers me about Luck

So I have been looking a lot at Andrew Luck since everyone here thinks he is going to be the next great NFL QB. After looking at his stats I have noticed that he has only been sacked 5 times this year and only six last year. My first question is Stanfords offensive line that good or does Luck have a great ability to avoid the sack?? I have looked at past college qbs that have been high draft picks and they seem to get sacked about 20 times a season.

So I would like to know if the reason why Luck is sooo good is simply because his offensive line is giving him plenty of time to make plays?

Or could the teams he plays against be that bad?

How can Luck be sacked so few times in both seasons?

Say Luck is playing behind a offensive line like ours, does it effect him and show that he isn't the player we thought he was?

I really would like to know more about this. If anyone knows about this I would love to hear your input.

None of his OL are projected to even get drafted at the next level, but I do believe there are only two seniors. He has the mobility to move around and avoid the first pressure. He uses his feet to keep plays alive, plus he gets rid of the ball really fast. He's 6'4" 230, so hes hard to bring down regardless.

his o line plays great together and they want to play well for him.

that's something we don't have. maybe our o line would want to play well for him when he comes out?

I mean its one thing for them to play well but for them to only give up 5 sacks is just amazing. I mean it has to be a record, if not I wonder what is the record for least sacks given up in a season.

The only other reason why he has had so little sacks in a season could be that he has a really quick release and has an amazing ability to get rid of the ball.

the guys in front of him block well for him, but that isn't all of the picture. he is big and tough in the pocket and also pretty mobile so he can buy time and wait for things to open up down field or take the ball and run it himself.

as far as buying time to throw it, there have been a couple times that he held on to it for a good bit longer than harbaugh felt comfortable with but then made something positive happen anyways.

he also does have a quick release, btw.

also, it isn't just people in here that have him so hyped. he's getting that from everywhere.

Flacco played at Delaware

Roethlisberger played at Miami(Ohio)

Rivers played at NCState which is weaker than the PAC10

Ditto, it's mainly his O-Lines chemistry together, his quick release and his great footwork which allows him to move around in the pocket to buy time and avoid pressure.....

The one thing that scares me more than his weak conference (PAC-10) and the hype and expectations (the next Peyton Manning, really?) surrounding the kid, is the fact that he and Harbaugh are tied so closely to each others success.

It reminds me of Brady/Belichick, Clausen and Quinn/Weiss, Manning/Dungy.

Brady was behind Brian Griese and Drew Bledsoe and was drafted in the 6th rd. Belichick was coach of the Browns (91-95) and couldn't turn them into a dynasty with Kosar, Tomzcack, or Vinny T. It wasn't until he and Brady got together that they were both considered elite/great/guru etc.

Two of these (Clausen and Quinn/Weiss) have failed miserably without each other (some would argue together, but, I digress).

While Manning has been without Dungy two years and maintained his level of play (in Dungy's system mind you).

I would be willing to bet that if Brady and Manning were taken out of Dungy's and Belichick's schemes (Pats o-line, aside) and put on any of the teams in the top five, they would struggle.

That is something that has to be considered (by any team in the top ten) when drafting Luck. Is he a system Qb or can he be successful in any scheme?

The fact that you believe Tom Brady or Peyton Manning couldn't be successful in other systems is laughable....

Oregon's defense is the master of the takeaway. They take big risks trying to turn the ball over and often give up a big play when it fails. Their secondary is hard to play against and playing in Autzen is no joke.
