Justify why Cam Newton isn't worth #1 overall?

spread offense

doesn't play under center

only started 1 season

run first pass second

just a few reasons there. all legitimate reasons not to take him number 1. no one knows how he would do under center but he does have good footwork in the pocket. also, he might not even declare for the draft too, he might go back to auburn for another year.

mainly this.

we've only seen him in 12 games, that's really enough to judge.

honestly, come draftday, don't be surprised if he "falls"

Of the major QB prospects, he plays in the simplest offense of all. It's going to be a huge adjustment having to do so many things pre and post-snap that he didn't have to do in college at all.

That said, I wouldn't mind if we took him. He or Green are our best bets. But let's not kid ourselves like he doesn't have weaknesses.

Exactly.... besides having the skills Luck also possesses great QB smarts, knowledge awareness... I mean running a pro style offense with over 350 plays.

The reads Cam has to make are very simple and easy compared to what he would have to know in the NFL.... The terminology, reads, plays, and everything are not something he will get overnight and he will have to be very very committed to learn and get control and confidence over everything.

That's why he is a risk as the #1 pick 50+ mil Guaranteed money. Once you make that pick you can not afford to be wrong, and there is a high risk with him because of those reasons.

He may want to rely on what he knows and his physical abilities like he does in college (ala Atlanta Falcons Mike Vick) but it will not give him success like Philadelphia vick is having now.

yep, that's why i think he's not worth the top pick

yep, all of those issues are question marks. my main issue is the spread offense that he was in and many times he had designed runs which wont work all that well in the pros.

The question about Newton is whether he will have the patience to stay in the pocket and throw the ball with the accuracy that is necessary to be a stater in the NFL.

that is something that i question, will he do what Vick did for years and read it and run. i dont see that working for Newton.

All these are soft as hell reasons to me.

He actually started in 2009 for Brinn College and that fall he led them to the 2009 NJCAA National Football Championship.

As far as him being able to transition to a NFL offense... that's anyone's GUESS. There's nothing saying any QB can transition.

What he does bring is some awesome talent like we've never seen before.

Cam Newton is no thug. Everyone loves him on campus and he's been absolutely clean at Auburn. The stolen laptop thing was just a dumb decision on his part where he thought he was getting a deal on a laptop and didn't know it was stolen. The only "thug" thing he's done that I know of was tossing the laptop out the window when the police were coming to search his dorm room for it. But I call that a dumb decision based off panic.
