Trading down to the mid to late first and adding a second should be our #1 priority. Teams will not offer much this year but we should really consider any deals even a late first if we can acquire a late second. Interest will be low in the #1 overall however so if we are stuck choosing because of lack for options Green is the best choice in my opinion. A DT I am ok with as well.

College resume + combine is a better way to evaluate talent than just your college resume. If I was wrong I don't think there would be a combine. They would just have the draft a few weeks after the BCS championship rather than months after.

Does anyone know what the structure of the trade with the pats was? Is it possible if we got another 2nd that could be the pick given to them instead of ours? I kinda doubt it but I can dream.

I do think that we will end up with Fairley but I think we could net more overall for the team by trading back if we could get a 2nd. I just don't know that would happen.

Fairley is not a bad pick either, so that is okay.

Well, yea, it wasn't "#33 next year", I misspoke. It would have been worded "the Panthers' 2nd round pick" which is #33. Any other pick would be "the Panthers' second round pick via -pick's original owner-". The Patriots have our #33, no wiggle room or any room for interpretation.

UNC Marvin Austin --second to third round, baggage, work ethic concerns

CLEM Jarvis Jenkins --third to 5th round in mocks. nice 2 gap dt

OSU Stephen Paea -- late first, early second. Could be ours if we trade down.

UNC Tydreke Powell --mocks I have seen have him very late

OLE MISS Jerrell Powe -rumored to be illiterate, still a big boy who should handle the 1 technique

LSU Drake Nevis--fast, a pass-rushing, smallish penetrator. Scared of him a little due to his size and the fact that he played vs. spread offenses. Second rounder.

BAYLOR Phil Taylor --350 pounds and will battle weight problems like Jenkins. 4th round or so

HAMP Kendrick Ellis --third round-5th round. A gamble as all Hampton players are. Big boy, will get a lot of looks from 3-4 people

ILL Corey Liuget --my personal favorite. second to third rounder.

....all DT with Day 1 talent. (first round?) I agree DT is deep, but none of these should go in the first, with the possibility of Paea.

In the fourth, a solid DT from Stanford--Sione Fua.

In the fifth or so, a unheralded DT from Auburn--Mike Blanc

This list shows how deep the position is. Several names are not on here as well, probably because they project to DE in a 3-4.

I'll tell something else that is rare. A draft with this little overall talent available, period.

Why is there such little home run options available?

Glad you asked! It is because so many underclassmen declared last draft due to the impending new CBA, that will have a rookie cap in place.

This is the weakest draft class in eons.

What is worse, there is no sure fire qb that is worth the #1 overall.

That leaves options like receiver, or defense.

And it could easily be argued no one in this draft class is worth #1 overall. Yet, some team still has to pick there. Right now, it is the panthers pick.

I'd much rather they draft the best receiver, dt, bpawhoever that may end up being on their board, than a qb that is another project.

Although DE isn't one of the most pressing needs for us at the moment, Bowers is #1 overall on most draft boards for overall talent. When teams pass up talent for a positional need with a top #3 pick, they usually end up regretting their decision. Unless we trade down, we need to select the best overall player in the draft who will become an immediate contributor and future pro-bowler.

The top WR is more likely to be a bust than any other position:

I think the Bengals would really like Bowers, but they have many needs. I would, however, trade down 4 spots with them for their first round pick next year, a pick that would increase our chances of landing Luck. This to keep Buffalo from taking him or someone trading up to get him.

I am guessing that Denver would take Peterson, Buffalo would take Fairley (but there is supposed to be some interest in Quinn), and we would be left with a choice between Dareus and Green in the worst case scenario. THe risk? The bengals need a WR also. IF they take Green, then Denver could take Peterson and Buffalo grabs Fairley, leaving the Panthers with only Dareus or Amukamara--still not bad.

In your scenario, if we were able to trade with the Bengals and they took Green, Denver takes Peterson, and Buffalo takes Fairley, that leaves Bowers that could be taken by us. I'm not saying we should draft him (cuz we're sitting alright at DE), but I think you'd have to consider him BPA over Dareus (lotta people are saying 3-4 DE) or Amukamara.

IF they take Green, then Denver could take Peterson and Buffalo grabs Fairley, leaving the Panthers with only Dareus or Amukamara--still not bad.

      Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.

      Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.

      I think people aren’t patient enough with Young. It can take a few years for a QB to develop. Look at Darnold, Baker and most recently Daniel Jones.   he hasn’t been able to put up big passing numbers either cause of how much we run the ball. You can tell our coaching staff still hasn’t took the training wheels off Bryce and let him go all out. We’ve had some pretty bad receivers as well. We finally got a true number one last year and look how much Bryce improved. Still we didn’t really have any depth behind TMac. Coker was hurt for a lot of the year and XL was our #2. How many big plays or TDs has XL dropped? I think this year can be the year we see Bryce able to hit his stride. If not then we can start looking for another qb but I just ask people to be patient.
