HOLY CRAP! We drafted who???

Name a time when you were totally wrong, when we drafted a player that just pissed you off at the time because you thought the player sucked or was not a need player, only to discover how wrong you were later.

I will be man enough to admit that I was PISSED when we drafted Jon Beason. Morgan was the man in the middle and I thought Beason was a second rounder. I think we had the 14th pick, that year, but traded it to NYJ.

I was also pissed when we drafted Ryan Kalil. I think Hartwig was the center and I thought the second round was too high for a Center.

I thought drafting Clausen instead of a receiver was a horrible move. Also, Armanti would've dropped to AT LEAST the 5th round. Drafting him that high was stupid.

And I will be honest, I HATED the J-Stew pick. Everyone thought he would be the new starter with Foster gone, but I was a VERY strong believer in Williams before he even started.

I hated the Clausen pick.

I remember being confused about Stewart.

I remember hating the Sherrod martin pick because it said he was a safety on the TV. I wanted to draft Duke Robinson:eek:

Jon Beason was alright with me I remember not liking some scouting report said he thought he was better than he was.

I remember i was steaming mad in the 6th round of this years draft when we took pugh and gettis , while steve smith 2.0 ( looks wise muscular frame and even same basic face look ) Kyle williams was still there and low and behold he went 4 picks later to San Fran ..

Gettis proved me wrong .. pugh needs another year before we'll know, but the potential seems to be there ..

Another one was more of i was pissed at the luck of the draw.. 07 draft 2nd round Minnesota was picking ..mel kiper was talking all about dwayne jarrett and how he'd go there .. and i was like hell yes now WE can get Sidney Rice!! .. then hell broke lose , sidney was drafted and we drafted jarrett the very next pick.. and .. well you know how that turned out

Oh, you said times I was wrong (doh).

Not trying to brag, but I can't think of any draft picks I absolutely hated that wound up winning me over.

    • TBH, these are the kind of players that get weeded out of professional sports pretty quickly. Also, CMC is not that guy. There is zero indication that he isn't competitive.
    • I like the free agency. It actually helps basically all schools across the board. Pretty much only ancient HC's and/or HC's that haven't been able to adjust have been complaining about the free agency. Your fortunes can be made or broken every offseason. It's not like before where a bad recruiting class or two meant multiyear purgatory.  I will never understand all the bellyaching about the NIL. If you want to talk about what ruined college athletics, it has been naked greed. Conference expansions for TV revenue, ever skyrocketing AD and facilities costs and now the attempts to permanently ruin the postseasons(football and basketball).  All the kids did was get a very well deserved piece of a very, very, VERY broken pie.
    • Nobody is saying they don't count against the cap, because yes, they technically do count against the cap as it's money the team is paying and it needs to be accounted for. But what you're not grasping it seems is that if a player gets $10 million guaranteed in their contract, whether they get literally $0 as a signing bonus or $8 million as a signing bonus, it doesn't change the overall cap hit of the contract, because cap hits are about the guaranteed money, not how much is paid up front. The only thing that how much is paid up front changes, is how the cap hit can be spread out amongst the years. So yes, technically there could end up being a slightly bigger cap hit in year 3 and 4 due to a bigger signing bonus, but if that is the case, it also means there will be a lesser cap hit in years 1 and 2 than there would have been with a smaller bonus.  But over the length of the contract, the size of the signing bonus has literally zero affect on the overall cap hit of the contract, because THAT part of it is 100% about the guaranteed money and nothing else.
