NFLPA and Agents talk about boycotting the NFL Combine

Ummmm, I don't understand. The guys entering the draft AREN'T part of the NFLPA. Try telling these kids that they shouldn't enter. Whereas the current players are already raking it in, most of the kids haven't a bean next to their name...

That was my first thought. Doesn't make any sense.

I just realized today, that every article written on the subject over the past year has Smith & Goodell saying "We need to get serious about talks".

Well, it's time to stop talking about "getting ready" to talk and actually sit down and talk.

i can't imagine many, if any, guys coming into the draft feeling cool about this. their dream for years has been to hear their names called from that stage and now some lawyer with a corn cob up his butt is telling him to miss out on that and, more than that, piss off the guys who are going to be giving you your dream job before you even get one?

stupid plan.

NFLPA reminds me of a fish in a net, just thrashing about, trying anything to get out of the situation with the fishermen just sitting there watching it.

But, then the fish gets loose. It's flapping around trying to find a way out. The fisherman thinks it might get free. Frantically, the fisherman tries to grab the fish. It slips through his hands onto the side of the boat sliding toward the ocean. Comes off the edge, then a seagull swoops him up. He still loses. But, who is the seagull?

I will play. The seagull is lost income.

Looks like we have a problem on our hands. Draft may be delayed.
won't happen. agents aren't even that dumb.

fwiw, the guy that works with scott wright over at draftcountdown said all the agents they talked to at the senior bowl said they were getting their guys ready for the combine. they aren't expecting to miss it.

If I'm a potential draft pick and an agent tells me to do that, I'm getting a new agent.

Guys, its another red herring. Just like Bob Kraft said yesterday this bull sh$t about collusion and de certifiying is nothing but a ploy. They have no grounds, they are going to lose and they know it.

Zod said it perfectly, they are doing nothing but delaying the inevitable and that is giving in to owners demands.

I can see the following happening, Instead of a billion off the top the owners will back down to say 640 mill. That is 20 mill per team which greatly offsets operating expenses and really helps small market teams. Hell a team like Jacksonville could pay its coaching staff and its stadium lease with that much.

18 games will come off the table. The fans aren't really big on it, but they will have to do something about pre season ticket pricing to appease fans and still bring in money.

They will revisit rule changes and fines and penalties. Goddell will never budge, and nor will owners, that he has final say and can suspend players. Sorry you spoiled asses, but you go out and rape someone your ass is going to be suspended. There is no other way to punish them.

As for as retirement money, part of that should come from current players and the NFLPA. Hey I am paying for people over 65's retirement out of my fuggin check, let the mulit millionares foot part of the bill for the guys that truely built this game! As for as helmet to helmet, that will never change. Why? Money. It is not about safety, it is about having to pay out to many players post career that aren't making the NFL money anymore because of post concussion injuries and I don't blame the NFL. Look you can knock the sh*t outta someone without going head to head.

18% paycut will most likely be dropped to 9.6% so the players get an even 50% instead of nearly 60%. The owners will conceede that IF that 640 mill off the top gets approved.

I really think it should work out this way. Still D.Smith is unpredictable and they owners could walk off with everything they want if they submit a deal and the NFLPA does not show up. Its kind of like when you dont show up for court. Not only do you get what you ask for but the other party waives all there rights.

Exactly, its not going to happen. See something not thought of here, Smith is going to alienate the agents asap. If their players don't get paid, the agent doesn't get paid his 4%. The Agents I would guess are going to start talking with their players and say 'hey, a 9.6% pay cut off your millions isn't that bad'.

haha no...

there won't be a combine boycott, because not everyone would do it and those that did would risk destroying their draft stock.

I think it's a crappy tactic to attempt to use incoming rookies to leverage bargaining power....also, it won't work...

LOL all I can say is the owners have talked softly and carred a big stick. They are knocking D.Smiths big mouth right into the dirt. His next great idea....

To have the vet players scream fug you when the kids walk into indy for the combine.
