Anyone else feel PP would be "safest" pick?

same can be said for any pick.. really, I would take Green.. we can scheme around CB, we can go FA for DTs, and when we find a QB, our offense will be set for years..

Safe picks? Defense: Pat Peterson CB

Offense: AJ Green, WR.

Fairley is a one-trick pony who has a great trick. Peterson can force the QB to throw at Gamble. However, our D will use a zone coverage scheme more than man. That takes away from his value. In addition, part of his value is as a punt returner. I don't want $20 million returning punts. Lost value again.

Green makes Steve Smith better. He makes the QB better. Will make the TEs better. We will need 4 WRs who can play. Imagine SS in the slot, Gettis and Green out wide, Barnidge up the seam and Lafell in the other slot? Green will make the offense better when he doesn't catch a pass because he pulls the second cover guy away from Smith. Gettis and Lafell now face nickels and safeties in coverage--win, win, win, win, win.

Fairley is good, but there are DTs in this draft into the third. Throw money at a free agent and draft a DT in the third. We will be fine. Green and Peterson are the freaks at their positions.

not saying he does, I guess I shouldn't have thrown that in. Where is boltergeist when you need him? did the Chargers run mostly man or zone in the secondary?

a lot of man, a lot of zone blitz. It will be a lot like Philly's D was with McDermott, pressure on the qb, lots of different personnel and pre snap looks

Corners and WRs are the same to me, just on different sides of the ball...skill positions that you can usually find deep into just about any draft. I'll argue that Gettis played better than LaFell last year. Lineman are generally graded out more consistantly, meaning if you need a top-flight lineman, you need to go high and not chance later picks. This league has plenty of CBs and WRs starting that weren't top picks. In other owrds, if the Panthers are serious about improving the interior DL, it needs to be done early in the draft.

You guys are crazy. We have swiss cheese at DT....We have tried to find that hidden gem in the middle rounds for years. We get the chance to pick a guy who fuging dominated in the SEC. Those of you who are talking about "one trick" and "inconsistent" apparently did not watch this guy play. And YES....I saw 7 Auburn games this season.

Fairely was flat out a beast. Question the one year wonder if you like. But the rest of this crap is just that.....crap.

Also, I watched several LSU games where Peterson looked average.

Peterson is the perfect physical specimen. Ridiculous shoulder-pad speed, safety size, corner mentality. Can help in run support. Big enough to set the edge. Can run stride for stride with big and small receivers. Good instincts. Good tackler. Long arms. Don't see why scheme will dictate his production. Zone blitzes will allow him to use his range. Man-to-Man is not an issue. Soft Zones are a nightmare for anyone that is a panther fan.

I'd love to get him. Hopefully Rivera and Don Gregory get this sorted out. 2 more months :<

I like Peterson, but if our defensive scheme remains the same -Meeks is the db coach, Peterson will be sorely underused in a zone based defense. He is best playing man, as is Gamble

Meeks has nothing to do with our play calling... whether zone or man, he will teach technique..

the Peterson crowd imo doesn't need to get their hopes up....odds of Carolina taking a CB #1 is very slim. Teams just don't take CBs in the top 5 and Peterson isn't THAT good. I think Fairley (who could bomb at the combine) has a slight lead over Bowers. I think this team is gonna get a body on the DL.

    • The same folks crying about the OL right now were crying about it in 2023 too. We have tied up over 100 million dollars in two interior olinemen alone and we have Taylor Moton inked to a recent extension. We've invested multiple first and second round picks in the offense. We hired an offensive minded head coach. This is an offensive team. The offense needs to produce or people need to be replaced.
    • This is the same place that has ridiculed and blasted Caleb Williams at every opportunity he has his team sitting at 10-4 in the same NFC that the Panthers are competing in. And their division in the NFC North is as or more competitive as our division. Yet from the same people who have very high standards for Williams we get every excuse imaginable for the smallest starting QB in the league even when he and his team continue to disappoint when the pressure is on. You lot aren't any less inconsistent than anyone else.
    • The Panthers are 9th in cap spent on offense this year.  However next season is already a different story  The Panthers as it stands right now will be 18th in cap spent on offense and 8th in cap spent on defense  The Panthers are currently set to spend more on defense next year than they are on offense this season Guys like Jaycee and Moehrig cap numbers take a big jump. Wharton has a massive cap hit   Jaycee Moehrig and Wharton in 2025 The same 3 in 2026 So this same defense as it stands right now will cost more in 2026 than this offense does right now… Got anything else you want to try?
