Jim Corbett of USA Today reports that Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert is expected to take a pass on all throwing drills at the NFL Scouting Combine later this week.

Gabbert’s competition to be the first signal caller drafted, Cam Newton of Auburn, will be making a game-time decision.

PFT has confirmed that Nevada’s Colin Kaepernick will participate in full. Washington’s Jake Locker will join him. Christian Ponder of Florida State said in January that he doesn’t plan to throw.

Ryan Mallett of Arkansas presumably will throw, but he’s got bigger things to worry about.

Things could change but this is how it's going so far.

UPDATE: Cam will fully participate in all workouts.

NFL Network now reporting Cam Newton will "fully participate" in 2011 NFL Scouting Combine. Wants to be "transparent."

Auburn QB Cam Newton said tonight at Davey O'Brien Award ceremony that he will be a full participant at this week's combine. Good move. - Schefter Tweet

This move might cost Gabbert a chance at being the 1st pick. He needs too show off his arm. Good move by Cam showing his willingness too improve and do what the teams want too see.

I prefer Cam anyway... but that being said. When having to chose between two players of somewhat equal value, and one was willing to compete and put himself out there vs a guy who choses to play it safe and sit out.......... I take the guy who chose to go out there any day of the week.

    • I may be way off base, let’s include this in that questions thread, but with the way the offensive staff turned on each other in 2023 I am happy to see anyone involved, gone. I had a bad feeling about Caldwell over it.
    • No poo tho you might could Jenkins for Legette. They got nothing at WR after the big 2 in Cincy. I don’t think you trade away OL depth. Could get a quality player in cuts. Really that 3-4 end spot what you should be looking for is someone who is stout with long arms and can push back the OL in both the run and pass game for others to make plays…. But we signed Wharton, sometimes I think Evero is a fraud ass nerd who should be an analyst at best.
    • you would honestly probably do Monroe Freeling more of a disservice by putting him in a position where is not yet ready to succeed. .we all knew Monroe Freeling struggled at the NFL combine in drills because of technique related issues & would need time to develop  & now all of a sudden before they even put the pads on Monroe Freeling is somehow a starting LT in the NFL ? if he struggled at the NFL scouting combine what do you actually think is going to happen in a live NFL game at LT ? .even our best LT of all time was not ready to start at LT when he was a rookie & he turned out to be a pretty good darn LT by the name of Jordan Gross ...just saying be patient Young Jedis
