How would you feel if Bryce did this in 2025

my understanding is a big time throw, could be a 5-10 yard slant to Adam Thielen given AT isn't going to separate.

“Generally thrown deeper down the field.” He was also one of the better deep ball passers his last 6 games. I understand wanting to be right about your original opinion of him but he definitely looked better throwing deeper down field those last 6 games. I’ve flip flopped on him plenty of times and he will either keep developing (hopefully) or not. We are building a decent NFL offense with or without him at this point.

93% of his pass attempts last year are post benching to final game (starting with Denver).

4 of his last 7 games his YPA are over 7 which is typically where you want it in the NFL. The most important thing is being able to keep the defense honest with the ability to hit some deep shots which is finally showed hr can do in those last games. Thats how you open up the offense. Regardless of how you look at it he was trending in the right direction.

Clearly, I was referencing the “or into tight windows” aspect of their stat and why it’s muddy what they are even including.  Because again, that’s our pass attack at large.  WRs that ain’t open much.

I think people have drastically oversold the deep ball last year.   They were rare.  Did he hit some? Absolutely.   The fact teams showed it no respect helped.  The Panthers overall were factually one of the least threatening teams downfield under Bryce.

My point is it got better later in the season. Teams couldn’t just pressure him and ignore the deep pass. He actually made them play honest. That’s why we actually got a few wins and held our own against both Super Bowl teams while sporting the league’s worst defense in history. Looks like in week 12 Young was the best deep ball passer in the league. Something he refused to do his rookie year.

I hope he builds on this and we might actually have a legit offense.

and yet you didnt answer one of those questions

The "big time throw" stat just seems like something made up from PFF

If you're trying to have a good faith convo, please clarify. I can't tell if you're being a dismissive douche or really want to discuss Panthers football.

I will gladly answer those questions if the latter.

Please clarify what?   I asked you 3 questions and you cannot answer one

2 of the 3 have been already answered. It’s for the season, and the definition has been shared by several people now. The only one that hasn’t been answered clearly is “are they completions?” which I would assume they are unless they are using some other statistic to define it as a “catchable pass.”

Sure, but I have long acknowledged he got better.  He went from horrific to mid-lower end starter.  But now you can’t say that…..you got people wanting to spin top 10 play if you look at it this way, great deep ball passer if you only acknowledge x.

I mean the headline in that article is nice for fans to run with.   But in reality Bryce Young was not the best deep passer in week 12.  Far from it.  He went 2 of 7 with no TDs deep.  The week was full of guy who went something along the lines of 3 of 4 with a bomb TD.   So Bryce then gets appointed best deep passer for say….plays like a 50/50 jump ball while trailing late to a fully covered AT that goes incomplete but could have been something given how the defender played it….not an actual good play.  But that could have been a good play.  I mean, same play could have been a pick if everything else was the same and the defender who had AT blanketed played the ball better (nothing changes for Bryce in terms of what he did.  It’s just a 50/50ish ball to someone covered)….and his entire best deep passer week 12 is built off plays that never happened over guys that actually got it done.

we should be happy Bryce went from shouldn’t of been drafted play to serviceable starter last year.  But all this spin that he is somehow actually sneaky great just ain’t something I’m doing yet

Please clarify if you're trying to have a good faith conversation and I’m happy to respond to your questions — though they have already been answered by others.

Notice it is the same few people basically trying to find flaws to justify their dislike of Young. You are doing a good job but it won't matter what you say. They won't change their mind unless there is a tsunami of evidence that is irrefutable. The annoying thing is that when they are wrong you might get a 1 post acknowledgment months from now but have to suffer the constant negativity for months and hundred of posts in the interim.

CRA, honestly I think you're giving other QBs too much credit. WRs bail out their QB more times than not in tight coverage. Yes, sometimes it's a perfectly placed ball that only the receiver can get to. But the receiver still has to make the play. QBs just give them a chance - trust factor. In that last game against ATL, Penix threw a lot of passes he had no business throwing. His recievers made play after play for him - that and our secondary had zero ball skills. That's normally how it goes.

Panthers rarely have guys running wide open through defenses, so most passes are contested due to tight coverage not necessarily bad ball placement. It was that way for most of Cam's career. That's why Darnold struggled so much. That's why things got difficult for Baker. That's the difference in Carolina. And that's why they chose TMac instead of an Edge.

Bryce was trying to wait on a guy to get open, or get in a position where he could throw them open. That, mixed with a bad oline, was why he struggled so much early and lost confidence. Difficult ask for a rookie QB. Hopefully he's figured it out going into his 3rd season.

Pretty sure the adverse applies here as well.  Cherry picking some random made up stat to prop Young up is not a good look either

    • Would Morgan or Beason have been HOFers' if injuries hadn't derailed their careers?  I was not a close watcher of the game when Morgan was in his prime but I thought Beason had a few seasons at close to Lukes' level of play.
    • Franchise QBs feast when things are rolling and the tide that raises boats when things are going sideways.  Bryce isn't that. He's a complimentary player, that's it.  When the defense and STs are on point, he plays loose and it shows.  When we are in a dog fight and things haven't gone our way, he struggles.  It's that simple. He's not a horrible QB, but he's not top tier either.  So the question begs, is this worthy of a second contract?  The answer should be no.  It definitely is my answer. Bryce will never be a QB that can produce wins largely on his arm.  That's a FRANCHISE QB, any other QB is simply a placeholder at the starter's position until that guy can be found.   At some point the excuses of lack of weapons will be a straw man.  Heck, it's nearly there now.  I mean if he doesn't look even better than last year will we blame it on the TE position?  'Well if Bryce only had a player like Kelce, Kittle or Gronk on this team...'  Are we really going to do that?
    • When I arrived at college, I was 18, not too much younger than some of these draft picks.  It was not a huge school, but there were guys on the team who were 21, 22, 23....playing ahead of me.  I was seventh on the depth chart.  Those guys have been through a few seasons, were stronger, more knowledgeable.  I was a better raw player than some of them, but those other factors matter.  As I grew stronger, more familiar with the playbook, and learned what it was like to play in college, I gradually improved and with that, I rose up the depth chart.  It took most of my freshman year for the light to come on.  Had the coach thrown me into the starting lineup day 1, I would have probably failed.    And that was college.  So I agree with you based on my experience on a much lower level.  Frankly, I think that is why so many kids drafted to fill huge gaps bust.  The teams are desperate.  Anyone who looks to fill vacancies in the starting lineup through the draft is desperate.  You draft depth to develop.  For this reason, I say, "Let Walker start for a while."  Maybe Brazzell can be our WR 4.  Throw Hunter into a rotation and ask him to do one or two things.  Freeling needs some strength and he needs to work on run blocking.
