Off Season Thread

Heck of a season boys. I didn’t think we would make it here.  Lots of money to spend this offseason.  Next year is when Rod gets truly judged.  I really can’t hate….we just don’t have the talent and alot of our guys are just old.    Great Season boys. It’s been a privilege.

@LinvilleGorgecan you pin this one for our off-season

Many of the talking heads at the beginning of the season thought we'd have a season like New Jersey where we'd make the playoffs but get bounced pretty early.  We did take a step back defensively, and lost TT and Noesen.  We could have used his net presence this year.  I think what hurt us the last few years is the 2nd line center spot.  I was happy to see Svech and Aho have a good playoff run.  That didn't happen last year.  We bolster the defense, get a 2nd line C, and find a grit guy to screen the goalie on PPs we should be right where we want to be.

I also think if I was the Hurricanes brass, I'd be having conversations with Rod about coaching changes.  Gleason is about the only one I'd consider safe.   PP has to get better regardless of roster, and if PK is the dude of the future, he has to improve.

It’s this simple. No more Burns. Orlov can fug right off.  He is gone. Roslavic is gone. KK with a dumb stupid penalty that swung the momentum.  That guy is done on this team. Robinson is probably gone.  I’m not sure Janko is back.   Taylor Hall kinda looks like a mistake out there. The guy was terrible in Washington and esp this series. Here is how the team will look next year with open Holes. We need a top line elite shooter with aho.  We need a 2nd line center sooo bad its hurts. Staal line is fine for what it is. That 4th line needs another center unless stank plays it.  Slavin needs a top guy with him. Boom will slot with chatty and might as well run it back with ghost and Walker. Goalie is going to be tough. It’s freddie and koochie until Freddie gets hurt. I wouldn’t be shocked if they trade for a Saros or Sorokin and let Freddie go. I don’t see this team moving on from koochie.

Jarvis Aho ———

svech ———-hall

carrier Staal Martnook

Blake Stank ——-

Slavin ————

Nikishin Chatfield

Ghost Waker

freddie—for now

Koochie

I guess stranger things have happened, but they just signed Freddie to an extension, so I’d be surprised if he’s not back. I guess he’d be included on the trade for another goalie.

Most likely trade target for a potential upgrade would be John Gibson from the Ducks

Also guys. It’s this simple vs Florida. They are bigger and better. Better all around with forwards. Better on defense minus Slavin. Better in goal. We need size and talent and a 100 point scorer.  All those can be addressed with 30 mill in cap space.

Florida is just better. It’s that simple.

Ideal lineup for next year for me:

Jarvy-Aho-Ehlers (5 yr, 8.25 mill AAV)

Svech-Duchene-Hall (2 yr, 6 mill AAV)

Stank-Staal-Marty

Blake-Kotkaniemi/Jankowski*-Carrier

*Would love it if we could somehow get out of KK's contract (even if we have to trade away a draft pick), but don't think we will

Slavin-Provorov (6 yr, 7.25 mill AAV)

Nikishin-Chatty

Ghost-Walker

Freddie

Kooch

Luckily we have our core 4 (Aho, Jarvy, Svech, Slavin) locked up long-term. We definitely need to start thinking about extensions for Stank and Chatty and likely Blake if he is in our future plans.

I agree with this. Florida is going to be tough to beat. But they can’t keep that group together much longer so the hurricanes window might open a little wider.

My problem is the series should have looked the way it did in games 4 and 5. From the second period of game 1 thru 3 were an abysmal effort and the players just looked defeated. I was very disappointed in the overall effort until games 4 and 5. I think it’s very fair to ask if Rod is the right man for the job right now. If they’d gotten swept again and they lost game 4 like 5-0, id say he might need to go. But I think the team bounced back enough to give him another year with the front office going all in to bolster the roster. Failure to reach the finals with a full push to build the roster to win now, Rod goes next offseason, and the team focuses on retooling around their younger players.

The off season should be eventful, it was painfully obvious we need a 2C and a 1RHD

The Canes have cap room and draft capital id be on the lookout for not just free agent signings but also trade moves..... Im actually leaning towards them addressing more via trade in the off season than free agency.

The Canes were definitely shook as soon as game 1 started going south.

I think Niko Mikkola coming back for Game 5 was big for Florida.  That guy was a force all series.  They definitely missed him in Game 4.

    • Why? AI already taking jobs, running up power bills, drinking all the water and just bad for the environment but hey lest try to shoehorn another useless way to use it.
    • I'm going rogue in R1 but there's so much confusion around us. Last year, we were going Walker or Williams and caught folks off guard with TMac. The previous year we LOVED Legette and it was no surprise when his name was called. This year, I think we nail three areas that weren't totally addressed in FA.  R1 - Kayden McDonald Full disclosure, I want Thienemann here, but think he goes before 19. Some might see an "overdraft" but McDonald unlocks so many people on our D. Having a DT the caliber of McDonald let's Lloyd, Wallace and the newly drafted Hill flood the offensive backfield. Also opens up Moehrig and our EDGES to eat. Lastly, it also removes all the pressure on DB to be the primary facilitator in the trenches and A'Shawn will be missed. I don't care about Turk. McDonald is the only true DT worth of a R1 grade and Morgan seals up our trenches here w/ a kid from a blue blood school. R2 - Anthony Hill Jr *trade up*  I love JRod, but think a smart team takes him at the end of R1 (Seattle, NE w/ two d-minded coaches). Hill, Jr is a beast and lost in the shuffle with all the Styles/Allen/Rodriguez hype. He and Lloyd with DB and McDonald up front and flanked by Scourton/Phillips is nasty.  R3 - Hecht/Lew/Center du jour Let's stop the madness with ignoring this position in the draft. We need one and should start normalizing the capital invested in our OL with someone on a draft contract. He won't need to start day 1, but I think the right selection will push for starter reps. R4 - Bud Clark Not sure if he's here in R4 where we pick, but would fit the "type" of FS/roamer that we need opposite Moehrig and Ransom. Allows us to run 3-safety looks and really keep teams guessing with personnel packages. R5 - Kendrick Law The kind of WR we need. IDK if he's any different than Horn, Jr or Metchie but Law could be a dart throw that brings a deep threat to our WR corps I'm guessing one of the R5 picks is used to move up in R2 along with a '27 day 3 pick.   Post-draft, I sign Njoku to bring in a vet at TE. I'm also keeping my eyes open for pre-week 1 team cuts for a young CB that we could bring in to maybe plan for Mike Jack's departure next year. Flame away.... I know the McDonald pick will not make people happy.
    • Classic example on what AI is not currently good for.  It will create a baseline of statistics (which are fine but must be used alongside tape and other evals) and partner that with every rumor mongering dips*&$t on the web.
