But also a wild d-bag, potential locker room cancer and a media circus.

This might actually put the nail in Tomlin's coffin.

It would probably be best for him and the Steelers both. Just seems like coaches run their course in the NFL. The message gets stale and both the coach and the team just need a change. The Steelers right now just seem to be completely embracing mediocrity. Forget winning more rings, let's just be happy if we make the dance. Two washed up retread QBs back to back just trying to cling to that mediocrity. I guess the Russ experiment didn't teach them anything. Now you're going with an older, even bigger egomaniac coming off an Achilles tear at 40. These guys aren't going to magically dial the clock back a decade. It is what it is. These dudes are washed and honestly so are the Steelers as a franchise in their current state.

It's a dicey situation for sure.  The devil you know and all.   And moving on from Tomlin would be risky as hell.   They are just in qb purgatory

I still can't believe they drafted Kenny Pickett in the 1st round.

Reports are that he's the worst player - the worst PLAYER overall, not just the worst QB - at Cleveland OTAs.

Worse than Gabriel is insane. That's "about to be out of the league" status.

That draft really will go down as the worst class in NFL history for QB's. If it wasn't for Purdy, there wouldn't be a single NFL QB in the entire thing.

But, the most impressive of all is us picking the only one of them that ended up never seeing an NFL game.

Rodgers couldn't get back to the Super Bowl in his best years in the NFC which has weakened significantly over the last decade. The odds of him leading the Steelers to a deep postseason run in this iteration of the AFC with pissed off teams out looking for revenge like the Chiefs Bills and Ravens is nil.

Yeah, Corral was a pretty big bust for a 3rd rounder. You're not necessarily expecting to find a long-term starter at QB in the 3rd, but damn you at least hope to get a solid backup out of it or a guy who at least makes some noise and gives you some hope. Corral just immediately looked like a guy who had no business in an NFL camp much less on a roster.

All this for a guy who's basically Joe Flacco at this point.

Yeah we would just hate a guy who put up 3900 yards 28 tds just a year off an Achilles injury. I'll just point out that Rodgers yards and TDs last year exceeded Joe Flaccos CAREER BEST season in his prime.

Except it wouldn't be Rodgers leading them on a postseason run, it would be the defense and he's there to not screw up their great games.

Which is why.....

This times a million.

I didn't watch a ton of the Jets last year, but from what I did see, Rodgers himself didn't look like a bum, the team just struggled and was more than likely due to poor coaching on the whole.  The Steelers don't need MVP level Rodgers to win games, they just need him to be good enough to make some plays when it matters because the defense is keeping them in games every week regardless.

In their 7 losses last season, the Steelers scored 10, 13, 17, 17, 17, 19, and 24... while giving up 19, 20, 24, 27, 27, 29, and 34 in those games.  With only marginally better offense last year, they probably end up winning a few more games too.

They only scored over 27 points in 3 games last season.

I think this is a great move by the Steelers and if Rodgers can stay healthy all year, will get them back into the playoffs and could make some noise if their defense is up to the normal level of a Steelers defense.

    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
